The golden light of the sun lit Milo's bedroom up, its bright rays taking over the messy student's room. There was a gentle breeze pushing the white curtains out of its way in order to get into the space. The atmosphere was peaceful, and Milo seemed to agree, even though he couldn't say if he did because he was asleep, it was pretty clear he was enjoying his last day of summer.
The only sounds that could be heard were the ones of the birds that were singing one of their last melodies of the summer and... footsteps?
They were growing louder and louder until they were right outside the door, where they stopped. Suddenly, the door swung open and a very angry-looking Monica stepped inside the room.
"MILOOOOOO!!!" she yelled, scaring the poor boy and making him get up immediately, hitting his head on the top bunk.
"OW-!" he yelped, rubbing his head "WHAT THE HELL? WHAT HAPPENED?!" he jumped out of bed, almost falling, but regaining his balance in the last moment. His hair was messy, his socks were mismatched and his blue t-shirt and black shorts were one size too large for him, so he looked a bit like a disaster, which was quite the opposite for his twin sister, who had her hair brushed and was wearing a fitted pair of jean shorts and a deep red crop top with a sports team's logo on it.
"I'LL TELL 'YA WHAT HAPPENED!" she poked the boy's forehead repeatedly "YOU were oversleeping while mom and dad needed your help!" then, the girl crossed her arms "I said 'okay, so what if he sleeps a little more? It's the last day of actual summer vacation, let the boy enjoy it!' But my GOD was I not ready for how much your lazy ass can sleep!"
Milo was barely beginning to understand what she was saying, being a bit dizzy from waking up so quickly, and maybe hitting his head, but there's a high chance that also happened when he was a baby so he wasn't concentrating on that too much.
"Wh- huh?" he rubbed his eyes "What do you mean? How much did I sleep?"
"I have no clue! How should I know, anyway?! I don't keep tabs on how many hours every single member of my family sleeps, so how about you find out for yourself?!" she said, pointing to the digital clock on his nightstand, showing the time:
11:57 A.M.
"WHAAAAT?!?!?" Milo yelled, putting his hands on his head and pulling on his hair "MONI, WHY DIDN'T YOU WAKE ME UP?!"
"Uhm, like I said, I wanted to be a good sister and leave you be for a few more minutes, but a few minutes turned into a few more hours aaand now we're here! So don't you DARE blame me!" she sighed again, looking down "Also, what psycho wears socks in summer?"
"Ughhh!..." Milo groaned in frustration, running past her and into the hallway, then to the bathroom. He quickly splashed water on his face, brushed his hair (superficially) and returned to his room.
Once there, he grabbed Monica (still with her back facing the doorframe) by her shoulders, turned her 180° and pushed her out of his room before slamming the door.
"Uh, wow, rude?" she said, but her brother didn't pay attention to her.
He picked a random white shirt with a shark on it, a pair of jean shorts, took off his socks, got dressed and ran out of the door. His sister was waiting for him next to the staircase leading to the bottom floor of their home, texting with someone on her phone.
"Ya done yet? Mom said her and dad are done taking the plants indoors, so you don't really have to work anymore. Lucky bastard..." she mumbled the last bit, but it was clear enough so Milo heard it.
He yawned and stretched his back, making his way over to her. He was somehow still sleepy.
"...What was all that about, anyway? What happened?"
The ginger girl rolled her eyes, turning off her phone and putting it in her pocket.
"Well, since you're so curious..."
