New York City, New York - February 2009

Lydia Deetz was a woman who was used to unusual things. But tonight, Lydia was feeling an unusual sensation... a sensation she hadn't experienced in nearly 20 years. It was the kind of sensation that made her cheeks flush, her mouth pant, her heart beat a little too fast, and the area between her legs feel much warmer. It was the sensation of her boyfriend Richard on top of her as he was shoving his penis deep into her vagina. As Lydia wrapped her arms around Richard's naked body, she got lost in her the moment as all she could feel was her sexual impulses.

As Lydia rocked her hips with Richard, all she could think about was this moment... and what led to it. After being apart for 18 years, Lydia couldn't believe she and her first boyfriend had gotten back together. However the two had tried to take their relationship slow. Lydia didn't want to rush things like they did when they were both 16 years old. However for Valentine's Day, the two had a little too much to drink, and then a little kissing led to clothes coming off, and then... suddenly Lydia found her legs inviting Richard's manhood inside her.

As Lydia felt Richard's member push deeper and deeper into her, she couldn't believe she had waited this long to have sex again. The sensations, the closeness, the pleasure... everything felt so perfect. The two didn't even talk about what they were doing. They didn't need to. Their instincts were doing it all. As Lydia felt herself unleash her inner wetness, she felt Richard couldn't hold back anymore either. Richard very quickly erupted as his inner man fluids shot like a bullet into Lydia's body. Eventually, the two felt relieved as they fell asleep in each other's arms.

However as the the two woke up the next morning, everything was blur. As Lydia woke up seeing she was naked, she recalled feeling pleasure... but wasn't sure how far things went. As Lydia raced to the bathroom (needing to use it badly), Richard woke up also feeling confused. As he looked at his body under the blanket that had partially covered him, he realized he was naked... but he wasn't sure if Lydia had been naked as well. Still... whatever happened, Richard knew that he loved Lydia, and that he would always stay by her side.

However... Lydia didn't feel that same level of certainty... especially when a month later she was starting to feel very sick every morning. Lydia wasn't in denial though related to why she was likely feeling so sick... so just like that terrible night nearly 20 years ago... Lydia went to the store to get a pregnancy test. An hour later... Lydia was taking a deep breath as she saw two pink lines appear on the little stick before her.

Panic set in, as she couldn't help but feel a cold sweat drench her forehead. Lydia's mind raced back to that fateful night in February, and she realized that her passion had caused history to repeat itself once more. Immediately the memory of that terrible day where Lydia got rid of her previous unborn child came freshly back to her mind, and the guilt was beginning to destroy her spirit once again. The thought of going through that experience again was unbearable. Lydia wondered: how she could pregnant again? Why would the universe allow this? Didn't God himself see how terrible a woman she was? Wouldn't the Lord almighty have prevented the most detestable woman in existence from having children?

Richard was concerned after Lydia didn't return his messages or come out of her apartment for three days. Richard then used his spare key he had to enter Lydia's apartment, looking at her with great concern as he found Lydia sitting like a lifeless statue on her bed. Finally, Lydia mustered the courage to tell Richard the words she had been afraid to say out loud to herself.

"I'm pregnant." Lydia said with sadness in her eyes. However only excitement was in Richard's eyes as he said, "You are!? Well, that's wonderful! This is like a miracle. I couldn't remember how far we took things on Valentine's Day... but this is the greatest news!" However Lydia's voice trembled as she said, "How can you be happy you're having a child with me? I can't be trusted with a child. When I had the chance to be a mother before; I looked at the responsibility I had before me... and I threw it away. It cast away a life because despite how much I acted like I didn't care what others thought of me, for one time only: I feared being shamed. I feared ridicule. I feared all the hard work that was before me... and I took the easy way out. Do you know what that makes me!?"

But Richard looked at Lydia with a love so fierce it could have melted ice caps. Richard then held Lydia's hands as he said, "It makes you a human being... who has been humbled by her mistakes, and wishes with all heart to be a better person... and that's exactly the kind of woman I want raising my child. I don't want someone who is delusional enough to think they're a perfect person to raise my future son or daughter. I want my future son or daughter to see you as a flawed person; but also see how a flawed person can still be used in Gods' perfect plan."

As Lydia looked into Richard's eyes, all her fears and anxieties began to melt away. As Lydia made a little smile, she said, "Well... I'll feel a lot better about raising this child if you were raising it with me... in this home... as my husband." The room grew quiet, the air thick with anticipation. Richard looks both confused and happy as he said, "Lydia... are you asking me to..." Lydia then got down on one knee, and took a black ring out of her pocket as she said, "I have been carrying this ring in my pocket for the last year, waiting to be brave enough to ask you... and now I know the time is ready for me to ask... Richard... will you marry me?" Richard then looked completely happy as he leaned in and kissed Lydia; a kiss filled with the promise of forever. "I'd be honored," he whispered, and Lydia felt a warmth spread throughout her body that had nothing to do with the baby growing inside her.

New York City, New York - November 2009

The next few months flew by as Lydia and Richard prepared for their new life together. Following their small intimate wedding, Lydia and Richard spent every waking moment getting ready for their baby's arrival. They painted the nursery a soft shade of grey, and picked out the perfect black colored crib. As the due date grew closer, Lydia's belly grew larger, and she felt the baby's kicks and flutters with a mix of wonder and fear.

Finally, the day came when Lydia's water broke. Lydia and Richard immediately rushed to the hospital, holding hands the whole way. The contractions grew stronger and closer together, and Lydia felt like she couldn't bear the pain. But Richard was there, whispering sweet encouragement into her ear, wiping the sweat from her brow, and reminding her that she was stronger than she thought. The doctor and nurses moved with a sense of urgency that was both terrifying and reassuring. Lydia pushed and pushed, feeling like she was being torn apart.

And then, with a final, earth-shattering scream, she felt the baby slide out of her. The doctor held up a squalling, beautiful little girl, and Lydia's heart swelled with love. Richard looked at the baby with tears in his eyes and said, "She's perfect." The doctor laid the baby in Lydia's arms, and she looked into her daughter's eyes for the first time. She was so tiny, so perfect, and so utterly dependent on her. Lydia knew in that moment that she would move heaven and earth to protect her.

"What's her name?" the doctor asked, and Richard looked at Lydia with a question in his eyes. They already had discussed a shortlist of names beforehand, but Richard wanted Lydia to make the final call. Lydia took a deep breath and finally said, "Her name is Astrid." Richard nodded, smiling through his tears. "It means divinely beautiful in Old Norse, and just feels perfect for this beautiful bundle of joy" Lydia explained. Richard smiled as he kissed her forehead. "It's perfect," he murmured.

As Lydia and Richard looked down at their daughter, they knew that no matter what the future held, they were going to face it together as a family. Astrid was the embodiment of their love and second chances, and she was going to be the most cherished member of their little clan. The world outside the hospital room faded away as they starred into the eyes of their newborn daughter. The fear and doubt of the past was replaced by a fierce determination to be the best parents they could be. Together, they would navigate this new chapter of their lives, hand in hand, with Astrid nestled safely in their arms.
