I was abruptly woken up by a metal hand shaking me awake. My eyes spring open only to come face to face with Lumos. I groaned in response.

"Lumos?! Come on I'm not even in your way this time!"

Lumos sighed as he stood up straight on his one-wheel.

"I'm well aware y/n but unfortunately...unfortunately, I have come to inform you that you are to no longer live here. This place is being bulldozed and rebuilt as a statue built in mother's likeness."

I stare at him in anger.

"You have to be fucking kidding me! Can't you do something? Call it off, figure out somewhere else to put your stupid statue."

Lumos looked off to the side slightly looking somewhat guilty before looking back at me.

"I wish I could y/n but this was demanded by Mother herself therefore I have no say in the subject. You are to vacate the premises immediately."

I seethe in frustration as I rub my hands against my face.

"Lumos."

"I'm sorry y/n....I truly am sorry but there is nothing I can do when it comes to Mother. You..you have until 5 am to exit the construction zone."

My head shoots up in disbelief before looking at the holographic clock that he pulls up.

"THATS ONLY ONE HOUR! HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO PACK UP AND FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO LIVE IN ONE HOUR."

I stand to my feet abruptly as Lumos blankly stares at me. A humming static plays as he speaks.

"If you would like I can print you a list of every abandoned building near the farm."

"Lumos."

"It's either that or appeal to be locked in."

I tug at my hair slightly as I pace around.

"I DON'T WANT TO BE LOCKED IN!"

"Then choose. It's either appeal to be locked in or I print you the list."

I grumble under my breath before stopping in my tracks and turning to look at Lumos.

"Give me the stupid list."

I could hear Lumos printing the list as I watched him pull it out of his arm cavity before handing it to me. I snatched the paper from his hand before turning and dropping to my knees to place some of my few items into my quilted blankets.

"I'm really sorry y/n."

I scoff as I continue to pack what little belongings I have without looking back at him.

"Don't act like you give a shit. You are nothing but a pile of metal and artificial intelligence. You don't have a single emotional bolt in your body so there isn't a point of pretending like you do."

I spoke in a low venomous whisper as I tied my quilted blanket like a bag before grabbing my second quilted blanket. I hear the humming engine of his machinery and static emitting from his voice box before the sound of him sighing. Eventually, the sound of his wheel rolling away is heard until I'm left alone in silence.

"Damn it!"

My voice cracks as I slam my fist against the concrete ground before running my hands in my hair and leaning my face forward til my forehead touches the ground. Why does it always have to be me?

Tears threaten to leak from my eyes as I try desperately to keep myself together. Reaching a shaky hand to grab the list before scanning over it and stopping at one of the names. Burnridge Manor huh? I click my tongue against the roof of my mouth before bringing my quilted blanket over to my pallet of toiletries. I place all of my toiletries including my clothes from yesterday onto the quilt before tying it up like I did the first one.

I grab my clothesline next making sure to wrap the line around the stick bases before using the stick to carry the two makeshift bags. I stare at what used to be my living area before begrudgingly treading through the stream.

Once I'm back to the grassy hill I climb it back up to the sidewalk before hoisting myself up and continuing my walk to Burnridge Manor. It was a longer walk than I intended but it was worth it once I saw the building.

Run down and old it was but somehow it still had an elegant charm to it. It was a huge castle-like building made in a Victorian style. The front gates were broken but still stood rather tall and intimidating.

I stared in awe before looking around cautiously and throwing my stuff over the tall gate. Once my stuff was over I crawled under the hole at the bottom of the broken gate slightly cutting my arm in the process.

"Shit."

I let out a deep breath as I maneuvered my way through the sharp edges of the gate before finally making it inside the front yard. I grabbed my stuff before walking towards the manor and entering the building.

Broken glass lined the floor. The lights have long since gone out but somehow all of the stuff from the previous owner still littered the rooms. I walked through the manor making sure to close the door behind me. Crooked picture frames of a small girl growing up hung from the walls alongside some family photos. The last picture is of the same girl as an adult.

She had an olive skin tone with brunette hair that was dyed a forest green color at the tips. Her hair was medium length and slightly messy as she stared at the camera with a smile blessing her structured face. She had deep dimples with high cheekbones along with a well-defined yet lean body.

She wore a puffy white dress that seemed rather uncomfortable but she seemed content either way. Her parents stood in the background almost going unnoticed as the woman stole the spotlight with ease.

I ran my fingers along the dusty portrait before turning to head towards the kitchen area. Upon entering I was immediately hit with the smell of mold. The underhead stove light still blinked on and off as a cutting board still set on the island counter. On the cutting board lay a half-cut rotten onion. It would seem the previous owners left in a hurry but why?

I open the fridge to see more rotten food and some bugs crawling around. My face contorted in disgust as I swiftly shut the fridge door before continuing my way around the manor room from room.

It was all rather uninteresting but made for a great place to stay...other than the kitchen of course. I would have to clean that out sooner or later. I was about to go place my stuff in the parent's bedroom to claim it as mine until I saw a room I had yet to enter. I went to open the door only for it to not budge.

No matter what I did it wouldn't open. I sighed before marking that down as a future me's problem. I go to the parent's room before setting my things down and lying on the plush bed. I have never had an actual bed before. This....this is nice. With that, I drift back to sleep without a care in the world.
