[scene: Mal and Ben are on the podium. All of Auradon Prep is around them. Nearby, Audrey watches.]
Ben proposes to Mal like the original scene. After he get up from his knee, they share a few words
BEN: I had a dream once, of a girl with purple hair, this was before we met. She saved me from a place I couldn't get out of alone.
Mal looks at Ben, tears begin to form
MAL: I dreamed of a boy, so sweet and kind. I thought it was too good to be true.
Ben smiled
MAL (CONTINUES): He told me he was my friend, and I told him I had none
Mal looks to the VKs and AKs standing together
MAL (CONTINUES): Turns out, I was wrong
The two begin to slow dance
Mal begins to sing Once Upon A Dream
MAL: I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream
BEN: I know you, That look in your eyes is so familiar a gleam
BOTH: And I know it's true, that visions are seldom what they seem
The crowd joins in, creating a chorus of voices, slow and romantic like the original recording. All but Audrey, Chad, and Queen Leah are singing.
Tears begin to form in Audrey's eyes. How could Ben allow their song to be repurposed like that? Didn't she mean anything to him, after all this time?
QUEEN LEAH: You were so close to the throne, to him. And yet, you lost it all in one moment.
QUEEN LEAH (CONTINUES): Your mother could keep a prince in her sleep.
Audrey looks at Leah with disgust. How could she say that right now? Didn't ANYONE care about how she felt?
Audrey looks back on the stage, Ben and Mal are gazing lovingly at each other.
AUDREY (Whispers): I loved you.
Audrey runs away from the crowd, into the nearest rose garden. Chad begins after her, but queen Leah stops him.
She picks a red rose, just like the one that saved Adam. she sings an edited version of Once Upon A Dream
AUDREY: I knew you, I walked with you once upon a dream
Audrey slowly plucks the petals off the flower, each one falling to her feet
Flashback to before the first film. Ben and Audrey are at a picnic together. This is one of their last dates before the VKs come to Auradon.
Audrey is the happiest we've ever seen her. Ben looks conflicted. Like he wants to say something, but can't.
Audrey takes Ben's hand gently, and begins to dance with him. She starts to sing the same opening lyrics to Once Upon A Dream, Ben joins in, softly.
The scene returns to the present. The flower petals formed a pile at her feet. Audrey blankly stares at the rose, and drops the remaining stem to the ground.
AUDREY (CONTINUES): But if I know you
I know what you'll do
You'll love me at once
The way you did once upon a dream
Audrey slowly walks forward, deeper into the rose garden. The camera pans on a low shot of her shoes stepping on the pile of petals. Her hands gently graze the roses around her, she's getting cut by the thorns, but she doesn't notice. Audrey continues to walk into the darkness.
