The room buzzed with anticipation as Nya carefully lifted the covers from a grimly fascinating artifact:
The skeletal remains of a Fangpyre. The eerie silence that followed was charged with the gravity of the discovery.
"Some villagers unearthed these remains a few miles away," Nya began, her voice steady but carrying a hint of excitement. "This Fangpyre predates the Golden Age. It must be hundreds of years old."
Zane sat on the table with a notebook open, his pen flying across the pages as he wrote down every detail. His face was a mask of concentration. Next to him, Kai shifted restlessly; his attention was elsewhere. His eyes flickered around the room, occasionally checking his phone and trying to stifle a yawn. He unconsciously leaned against Sam, who remained fully engaged with Nya's explanation.
Sam's gaze was fixed intently on Nya, absorbing every word. His focus was unwavering, a testament to his dedication. Meanwhile, Cole was caught up in his creative world and had pulled out his sketchpad. He drew a detailed picture of himself engaged in combat. When he ran out of paper, his surroundings became an impromptu canvas and he started doodling on Sam's arm.
Sam looked down at his arm, bemused but amused. "What are you doing, Picasso?" he asked, raising an eyebrow at Cole's artistic intrusion.
Cole grinned sheepishly, not pausing in his drawing. "Just capturing the moment."
Jay, sporting a new wild hairstyle that looked like it had been styled in a gust of wind, stared at Nya with a dreamy, infatuated expression. His eyes followed her every move, seemingly entranced by her presence.
Nya continued, her voice tinged with scientific enthusiasm. "Although the venom in the Fangpyre's fangs is known to mutate human cells into a reptilian form, I've been researching a possible alternative to creating an alternative to building an antivenom. If we can induce a significant increase in heart rate, it could theoretically reverse the venom's effects."
As she spoke, Nya's cheeks turned a delicate shade of pink, her concentration momentarily broken by a sudden, faint scent. "Excuse me," she said, her voice tinged with concern. "Is someone wearing perfume? I'm severely allergic to perfume."
Jay caught off guard, whispered to Kai, "You told me it was a men's cologne."
Kai shrugged nonchalantly. "Meh, I get them mixed up."
A wave of laughter swept through the room, the tension broken by the humour of the situation. Zane had turned off his funny switch, his expression reverting to his usual neutral intensity.
Cole glanced around at the group, noticing the end of their impromptu science class. With a grin, he stretched his arms and cracked his knuckles. "Ah, looks like class is over. It's time to start stomping some Serpentine before they find any Fangblades."
Kay, eager for some action, nodded in agreement. "Sounds like a plan."
Sam caught the various sketches adorning his arm and turned to Cole with a wry smile. "Cole, you're going to help me remove your artwork? Right?"
Cole, grinning at the playful banter, shrugged. "What are you talking about, Sammy? I thought you liked my art."
Sam raised an eyebrow, playing along. "I mean, I'm not exactly looking to start a new trend in body art."
Cole chuckled, giving Sam a playful noogie on the head. "Just keep it, Sammy. It's a tattoo now!" he joked, ruffling Sam's hair with affectionate roughness.
