Kavya paced anxiously around the apartment after receiving the chilling message. Her mind was racing. *Who could this person be? How do they know about Dia?* Every creak of the apartment seemed to send a fresh wave of panic through her. The message had said she couldn’t trust Dia—but Dia was on her way. Was it even safe to let her in?
Before she could gather her thoughts, there was a sharp knock on the door. Kavya froze, her breath catching in her throat. The knock came again, this time louder, more insistent.
“Kavya? It’s me, Dia! Open the door!”
Kavya hesitated, the warning from the unknown number echoing in her mind. But then she heard the urgency in Dia’s voice—something familiar, something reassuring—and against her better judgment, she opened the door.
Dia stood there, a worried expression on her face. She stepped inside quickly, closing the door behind her. “What’s going on, Kavya? You sounded so scared on the phone.”
Kavya stared at her friend, torn between relief and suspicion. Could Dia really be part of this? Could she be the one betraying her?
“I’ve been getting these messages,” Kavya finally said, her voice shaky. “They keep warning me about Arjun, about… everything. And now they’re telling me not to trust you.”
Dia’s eyes widened, and for a moment, she looked genuinely hurt. “Not trust me? Kavya, I’m your friend. I know things have been tough between us, but I would never hurt you.”
Kavya searched her friend’s face for any signs of deceit. Dia had been her best friend for years—could she really be involved in whatever this was? Or was the person sending the messages just trying to isolate her, to make her paranoid?
“I don’t know who to trust anymore, Dia,” Kavya said, her voice barely above a whisper. “Everything’s falling apart, and I feel like I’m losing control.”
Dia reached out and took her hand, squeezing it gently. “You’re not alone in this, Kavya. Whatever’s going on, we’ll figure it out together. But you have to trust me.”
Kavya nodded, but the doubt still lingered in the back of her mind. There were too many unanswered questions, too many secrets swirling around her life. And Dia, as much as she wanted to believe in their friendship, had already betrayed her once. Could she truly trust her now?
As they sat down, Dia asked more about the messages. Kavya explained everything—about the warnings, the mention of Arjun’s past, and the threats that had been escalating. Dia listened intently, her expression darkening as the story unfolded.
“Whoever this person is, they clearly have an agenda,” Dia said, frowning. “They’re trying to break you down, make you doubt everyone around you.”
“But why? What do they want?” Kavya asked, her frustration bubbling to the surface.
“That’s what we need to figure out,” Dia replied. “But I think we should go to the police. These messages—this stalking—it’s not something you should deal with alone.”
Kavya shook her head. “The police? What can they do? These messages are anonymous. They won’t be able to trace them.”
Dia looked at her, her eyes filled with concern. “At least they can open an investigation. Maybe they can track down the person responsible. You shouldn’t be going through this without any help.”
Kavya considered Dia’s suggestion, but something still didn’t feel right. The police might get involved, but what if that made things worse? What if the person behind the messages was closer than she thought? What if the police couldn’t help at all?
Just then, Arjun came home. His presence filled the room, and Kavya felt the tension between them immediately. He looked at Dia with surprise, his eyes narrowing slightly before he turned to Kavya.
“What’s going on?” Arjun asked, his voice calm but with an edge of suspicion.
Kavya quickly filled him in about the messages she had been receiving, omitting the detail about not trusting Dia. As she spoke, Arjun’s face darkened. His eyes flicked between Kavya and Dia, and Kavya couldn’t help but notice the tension that seemed to hang between them.
“This has to stop,” Arjun said firmly. “We need to find out who’s doing this and put an end to it.”
Kavya nodded, relieved that Arjun seemed to be on the same page. But as they discussed what steps to take next, she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something they were missing—some piece of the puzzle that hadn’t yet fallen into place.
After Dia left that night, Arjun turned to Kavya, his expression serious. “Do you really trust her?”
The question caught Kavya off guard. “What do you mean?”
“I mean, after everything that happened between the two of you, do you really trust her?” Arjun asked, his voice low. “This person sending the messages… they seem to know a lot. More than anyone else would.”
Kavya’s heart sank. Arjun was voicing the very doubts she had been trying to push away. Could Dia really be involved in this? Or was she just a victim, like Kavya, caught up in someone else’s twisted game?
“I don’t know,” Kavya admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. “I want to trust her, but… I don’t know who to trust anymore.”
Arjun took her hand, his grip firm but gentle. “We’ll figure this out. Together.”
Kavya nodded, but deep down, the doubt lingered. Trust was a fragile thing, and right now, it felt like hers was slipping through her fingers.
As Kavya lay in bed that night, staring up at the ceiling, her mind raced. The pieces of the puzzle were all there—Arjun’s dark past, the anonymous messages, Dia’s sudden reappearance in her life—but none of them seemed to fit together. She knew that something wasn’t right, that there was more to this story than what she could see.
And as sleep finally began to take her, one thought echoed through her mind: *Who can I trust?*
