2:48am

You'd tossed and turned for hours before you finally gave up.

Summer was great for pretty dresses and pastel colours, barbecues and days at the beach, but when it came to sleeping, it was horrible.

The sheets seemed like safety blankets, laced in foil, conducting heat.

It was hard to sleep beside Michael, his body and your body roasting without the warmth of eachother, you knew Michael was awake.

The two of you could sleep well when you were touching, but with no body connection made and constant tossing and turning from the both of you, you just knew.

"Ugh!" You screamed loudly, "I hate this."

Michael giggled breathily beside you, "How is it even possible to sleep at a time like this?"

"It isn't, the fucking o-zone layer or something, is getting thinner, thus letting more heat in to the earth, soon we might just cook like a roast chicken in a hot oven."

Again, Michael laughed, you could see the glisten of sweat on his forehead and his dark hair stuck to his face, normally his eyes would be the only thing that glistened when the light of night leaked through the curtains.

"I give up," you huffed, planting your feet on the somehow warm tiles, "Let's go on an adventure instead."

"You'll get us killed if we go out at this time of night," Michael whined, tugging on your arm.

"We can drive instead." You stated simply, throwing on a light cardigan and shorts, "Get up hot thang."

Laughing and probably crying in pain of heat, Michael eventually stood up, throwing on a singlet and some jorts.

You had to hold back your laugh, jorts.

"Fine, lets go, atleast the car has better air conditioning." The pale boy mumbled, pulling out the car keys from his back pocket and dangling them from his fingers.

"Agreed," you nod, walking as fast as you could to the garage.

"I don't know what the big fuss over Ben & Jerry's is," you said, spoon dangling from your fingers.

Michael nodded beside you, "I know right, Tip Top will always be good."

Michael had parked on the cliff infront of the beach, the sun always rose early in the summer, annoyingly peeling itself from behind the horizon, there was no escape.

"You know, these are the memories I'd like to remember." You spoke after a few moments of silence.

"Hey kids, your father and I once went for an early morning drive because it was too damn hot, and then ate icecream on a cliff at the beach, watching the sun come up." You explained, looking out at the starry sky that was getting lighter as you spoke.

Michael's eyes were on you, he loved how you talked about your future, how it always included him, he loved how your eyes glistened as you spoke and how happy you'd seem.

You'd stopped talking but Michael couldn't stop thinking, he took a few moments to react to your excited eyes looking directly at his.

"That sounds amazing, any moment with you will be a memory to keep forever."

You smiled at his sweet words and he loved your smile. He loved you, so so much.
