2. Pervert Gangster

Lan Wangji, a dedicated CBI inspector from Shanghai, finds himself in a rather unusual situation.

After being suspended from his duties for six months, he decides to take a much-needed break.

The caller ID shows a private number, and Lan Wangji is immediately suspicious so he answers the call, his voice carrying a hint of irritation.

Lan Wangji speaks in a slightly lowered voice, "Hello? May I know who called me from a private number?"

On the other end, the voice of a man introduces himself when Yilling Patriarch says, "Hi, Lan Zhan. It's Wei Ying. Do you remember we met at a bar a few months ago?"

Lan Wangji is momentarily stunned so he can't recognize the name of this person because he does not remember when he met anyone at a club.

The man's use of Lan Wangji's birth name, "Lan Zhan," surprises him since he never shares his birth name with anyone.

Lan Wangji remains composed but his voice reveals his confusion, "Wei Ying? Who are you? How do you know my birth name?"

Wei Ying, who is actually the notorious gangster known as Yilling Patriarch, chuckles softly.

Yilling Patriarch smiles and mocks him, saying, "Oh, Lan Zhan, don't you remember? I told you my name a few months ago. Did you forget when you were handcuffing an innocent person like me?"

Lan Wangji is taken aback because it's not every day that a criminal addresses him with his birth name.

Lan Wangji eyes narrow as he tries to recall the previous encounter which makes him angry.

Lan Wangji angrily asks in a cold voice, "Why are you calling me? If you don't have something important to say then cut the crap. Soon I will hand you over to the Shanghai CBI, Mr. Wei Ying uff Yilling Patriarch."

Wei Ying's tone shifts to one of flirtatious amusement, "Oh, Lan Zhan, is that how you greet old friends? I'm calling you after all this time, and your first reaction is to threaten me? I'm hurt."

Lan Wangji's irritation grows, but he maintains his professional demeanor, "What do you want? If this is about any illegal activity, I'm not interested."

Wei Ying's voice turns more serious, "Actually, I do have some important news. It's about a drug consignment. It could help you get back to your inspector duties faster. And, it might just clear up any suspicions your department has about you."

Lan Wangji is intrigued but still wary so his mind races with questions, "Why should I trust you? What's the catch?"

Wei Ying's tone softens, and he adds a hint of charm, "No catch, just a little favor. I need you to come meet me at a burger café nearby. It's the best place to discuss sensitive information without being overheard. Besides, I promise I'll make it worth your while."
