"I just wanna get groceries

I'll pray you wanna get close to me

I'll give it some, give it some, give it some time

But I think we're supposed to be"

It seemed like it had only been minutes since Y/n agreed to go shopping with his 'younger brother' Winston. Probably because Y/n fell asleep quite easily that night – after hours of panicking, considering his future, and overthinking the isekai trope. Disturbing thoughts plagued Y/n – had he died? Was he in a coma?

Unlike the average protagonist, his life wasn't horrible. He wasn't abused, he wasn't sick – his life was... tolerable? From an outside perspective, Y/n's previous life would probably seem lonely. He spent hours playing otome games, between shifts at whatever job he was holding down at the time. He didn't have any close friends, which was lonely, but a lot of people had it much worse.

And he hadn't even begun to consider what happened to the real Y/n Summers – but that would be a worry for another time. Right now, he needed to get ready for a not-so-mundane shopping trip.

Y/n pulled on an outfit from 'his' closet, settling on cargo pants and a tank top. It was sort of a basic outfit, but with a couple of accessories, it looked stylish enough for an otome game character. He settled a pair of sunglasses on top of his head.

He went over the plan he had made last night. It was rather simple – avoid letting Winston save Percy, regardless of what it took. He didn't want to be a killer – by any moral definition – but he hoped to avoid even seeing Percy on their walk back from the grocery store. He kept telling himself that someone else would save Percy to assuage his conscience. So, he didn't really have to worry about anything until after the grocery trip. And then– just suggest taking the "scenic route" home, or going to another stop before heading back. Y/n had no way of knowing which street the accident would happen on, and the game mentioned nothing about Winston's walking route being special, so he reasoned that the best method would be to try taking an abnormal path.

Before Y/n could begin to leave his room, the door shot open, with Winston coming in with an excited smile. It was a bit... shocking... considering how stiff and formal their previous conversation had been.

Winston began speaking, still in his soft and sweet tone, but much less uncertain. "Y/n, are you ready to go to the store yet? I was thinking, if you wanted, we could go to the farmer's market instead! I-it's really fun to go." He spoke eagerly as if he had been reciting all the details in his mind. It was almost childlike, but Y/n assumed the poor guy was seriously under-appreciated by his family.
