Tw: Reference to hate crimes against gay & trans people

Children of the world,
Told we loved the wrong way,
That we aren't who we say we are.
Expected to change,
To assimilate,
To fit into the crowd.

She was painted blue at birth,
But her heart was always pink.
Looked into the full-length mirror
And saw the princess that she was
Staring back at her.

So she grew out her hair,
Made up her face,
Put on her prettiest dress
Went out dancing like Cinderella.
Met a boy, they hit it off,
She thought he liked who she was,
But he was angry when her body
Was different from every other girl.
Now she lies six feet under.

The little boy whose heart would flutter
When his best friend looked at him.
Who was told
"One day you'll have a wife"
But he never wanted that.
He grew up and fell in love,
But holding his lover's hand in public was enough
The other boys jeered and threw rocks.

The world may try to tear us down
But we'll keep fighting on
'Cause sticks and stones may break our bones
But this is who we are-
The warriors of light, warriors of love.
