"I hope you enjoy your first night in Hogwarts. Sleep well, (Y/N)."

"Thank you, Professor Weasley." You smiled pleasantly as the headmistress retreated back to her office. With baited breath, you turned back to the Slytherin common room. Your new home for the year.

Hesitantly, you approached the barren stone wall, not entirely sure how the whole password thing worked yet.

"Aspiration?" you whispered, just as Professor Weasley instructed. Seconds later, you watched in amazement as a marbled snake slithered above the door frame, granting you entrance.

At first, you'd been skeptical after hearing that your common room would be situated in the school's dungeon. However, much to your relief, your trepidation seemed wholly unfounded. High, Gothic archways filled the room's ceiling, giving the space an opulent atmosphere befitting of Salazar Slytherin himself. Lush white couches, chairs, and other antique furniture accentuated the prestine floors. You could hardly believe this was to be where you lived for the rest of your school year.

So absorbed in the space, you hardly noticed when a Slytherin girl gossiped not so subtly beside you, "must be different, starting as a first year."

You sighed, there went the small illusion of peace.

Well, I suppose some introductions are in order.

"Not going to move there? Are you?" A voice suddenly sneered behind you, peaking your attention.

"Imelda, would you please not?"

"Don't say I didn't warn you."

You snuck closer, peering down to see a wizard chessboard match. From the looks of it, the boy getting chastisized seemed to be losing pretty bad.

"And- checkmate!" His opponent exclaimed proudly.

"Damn it!"

"Told you so- oh." The gloating girl stands taller, meeting your eyes.

"I know who you are," she starts. "You're the new Slytherin girl who came charging in with Professor Fig. Interesting tactic, on your first day, drawing all the attention away from the first years."

You winced, "ah, that wasn't my intention-"

"I'm Imelda, by the way. Shame I wasn't with you and Fig, I could've lured that dragon away. My skills on a broom are legendary."

It takes more effort than you'd like to admit to not roll your eyes at her.

"Nice to meet you, I'm (Y/N) (L/N)."

"Likewise, (L/N). As I was saying, it's really too bad I wasn't there with you and the Professor, maybe that man from the Ministry would've made it." Imelda shrugged, as if discussing George's death was no greater of importance than commenting on the weather.

"Anyway," she continued, "are you into flying? If you are, as I suspect you are what with all your dramatics, then I suppose I should invite you to participate in my time trials. Especially since that horrid Headmaster black banned Quidditch this year. I've-"

"Oh give it a rest, Imelda," the boy who lost sighed, swiftly earning yet another ear full from her. You took that as your sign to retreat.

Stepping away, you found yourself slowly gravitating towards a warm fire place hidden in the back of the common room. There, you noticed a handsome boy pacing back and forth, completely immersed in his book.

Curiously, you tried to get a better look at him, inching foward. From where you now stood, you realized your initial assessment of him was incredibly underrated. The boy was gorgeous. Brown hair swept handsomely across his forehead, hovering above beautiful brown eyes and an incredibly attractive face. Immediately, you felt intimated, regretting your choice to walk over there. Clearly, he was well beyond your league-

"Can I help you?" He questioned you harshly, eyebrows raised.

Fuck. You stuttered. "Um, no! I'm so sorry for disturbing you, I'll-."

"Wait a minute," he said, assessing you closer. "You're the new fifth year."

Licking your upper lip nervously, you nod. The Great Lake was beginning to look mighty appealing.

The boy smirked, holding out his hand to you. "I'm Sebastian Sallow. Welcome to Slyhterin."

You took the gesture, hoping the dark ambiance of the room was enough to hide your reddening face.

Sebastian Sallow. Merlin, even his name was attractive.

"Thank you. I'm (Y/N) (L/N)."

"Huh. It's not everyday someone gets a ministry escort to school, (L/N)," he commented slyly.

What is with everyone's bloody obsession with your arrival? Though, you couldn't exactly blame them. Someone enrolling at Hogwarts as late as their fifth year was essentially unheard of.

"Well," you tried to explain, "he was a friend of Professor Fig who merely came along for the ride-"

"Hey, Sebastian!" Another guy called from the window, wand outstretched in front of him. Sebastian hardly glanced his way when he spoke to him.

"What is it, Ominis?"

"Have you seen my potions book for Prpfessor Sharp's class? I planned on reviewing it- huh."

He pointed his wand at you, and you involuntarily took a step back. It's then that you notice his cloudy white eyes, flashes of blue streaked in between.

He was blind.

"Hm, based off all the chatter in the common room, I presume you're the new fifth year? (L/N), is it?"

Surprise colored your features, not expecting him to already know you. "How did you-"

Sebastian intercepts, casually drappung his arm around the blonde.

"Nothing gets passed Ominis over here, got ears and eyes everywhere, you see. Ominis, this is (Y/N). A fellow fifth year."

"Hi," you offered, unsure how else to introduce yourself.

"Welcome. I'm Ominis. Ominis Gaunt. Do let me know if there's anyway I can help you navigate on your first day. Though, I doubt you'll need it."

You smiled graciously, "thanks Ominis. I'll hold you to it."

"Brilliant. See you around, (Y/N)," Sebastian offered before tugging away his friend. "So, about your potions book-"

"Sebastian!"

He let out at a boisterous laugh that made you feel like your stomach might burst with butterflies. "You're too serious, mate. Anyways, I have a preposition for you-"

Shaking your head, you could hardly contain your own laughter while the two boys walked away. Despite the chaotic start of your day consisting of fighting off statues and dark goblins, you couldn't be happier to be in Slyhterin house. Perhaps great things were to come after all.
