Ominis Gaunt took immense pride in his accomplishments. Despite being visually impaired, the Slytherin seventh year excelled in almost all branches of magic he found interest in. There wasn't an enchanted herb he couldn't identify, or a spell he wasn't capable of.

Unfortunately, those same stellar qualities seemed to evade him when it came to Professor Sharp's potion class.

Since enrolling at Hogwarts, Ominis couldn't recall a time in which he successfully brewed a potion on his first try. Or even second or third tries. Often, the labels and bottles did little to guide him on what ingredients he was handling, leading to many mishaps and horribly brewed potions rivaled only by Garreth Weasly himself.

Though, unlike Garreth, Ominis wasn't even trying. And no matter how many study sessions he had with Sebastian, or books he read, he always felt that subdued feeling of inferiority. As if he were transported back into the Gaunt Manor and reduced to to a pathetic child. Unable to do anything as he watched his family torture muggles for sport. Watched as he himself cursed those muggles, no better than his brothers or father. His gut wrenched at the memories.

Never again.

Which brought him to the present, sitting beside the girl who not only captured his heart, but the entirety of Hogwarts.

(Y/N) (L/N), a Ravenclaw and the savior of Hogwarts. Everyone gossiped of her tumultuous arrival to the castle, eager to hear her encounter with a rampaging dragon. Ominis, on the other hand, didn't find much appeal. Aside from Sebastian, whose curiosity was certainly peaked, Ominis hadn't planned on crossing paths with the new fifth year.

Thus, when (Y/N) (L/N) emerged from the undercroft, he was extremely displeased, to say the least. From there, nothing but chaos and destruction followed in their path.

Sebastian spiraled into unspeakable magical territories, desperately hoping to find a cure for Anne. And while Ominis understood better than anyone Sebastian's desperation to get his sister back, he couldn't condone his best friend's behavior. Thankfully, (Y/N), in ways Ominis couldn't comprehend, managed to finally drag Sebastian from the dark arts, convincing him to not cast the Avada Kedavra curse on his uncle Solomon.

Since then, Ominis had developed a deep admiration for the Ravenclaw girl, not even including the fact she dispelled an entire goblins rebellion. Sebastian often liked to tease him about liking (Y/N), but he refuted it every time. It wasn't as if such a talented, clever, and courageous witch would even give him the time of day anyway.

No, it was better they remained friends. Ominis certainly didn't want to be the one to jeopardize their friendship. Plus, he'd finally adjusted to the much more peaceful routine with (Y/N) and Sebastian following the defeat of Ranrok and Rookwood.

Go to class, study, hang out in the Three Broom Sticks, visit Anne, and now, review potions with (Y/N) every Friday in her room of requirement. Which, happened to be today.

"Can you tell me which vial contains asphodel?" (Y/N) teased, sure she could stump him this time.

Ominis waved her challenge, impressed but not intimidated.

"Hm, someone isn't holding back today," he grinned lazily, swiping his hand familiarly across her potion table. Which, was currently littered with identical glass jars, each containing a myriad of potion ingredients most likely to appear on Sharp's exam.
