"Ready for your match, (Y/N)?" your younger house mate, Lucan Brattleby, greeted you. He stood at the front of the clock tower entrance instead of his usual post, most likely attempting to do some crowd patrol before the battle could start.

First rule you learned upon arriving to Hogwarts as the new fifth year was this: no secret remained hidden forever. Gossip around the castle spread faster than any incendio spell could, weaving its way through students and portraits alike. You remember it taking only hours for the entire student body to find out that Duncan Hobhouse asked you to retrieve the leaf of the giant Venomous Tentacula in the hidden herbology corridor. You hadn't even needed to mention it, but you suspected a certain blind Slytherin was to blame for the rumors.

Besides, it's not like you attempted to hide this particular duel very well. Between Natsai and Garreth, you wouldn't be surprised if even Professor Hecat showed up. However, none of that remotely bothered you. Grinning, you brandished your wand from your robe. "If you mean am I ready to kick Sallow's ass? Then yeah, you could say I'm more than ready for that."

"That's big talk coming from someone whose about to lose."

Spinning, you spotted the glinting eyes of your number one rival and undefeated cross wands champion: Sebastian Sallow.

Ever since your first introduction to him during defense against the dark arts class, the two of you had been in fierce competition ever since. You vividly remember the shock on everyone's faces in the class when you single handedly defeated Sebastian during Professor Hecats example warm up your sixth year. Of course, with only Levioso at your disposal, the two of you were determined to see who truly was the better duelist. The fact that you were also in rivaling houses definitely didn't help.

Battle after battle, almost each one finished in a tie. And if it didn't, then the win was miniscule at best, hardly reflecting a true victor. So, as the cross wands tournament neared, Lucan purposely avoided pinning the two of you against one another. The Gryffindor was probably hoping to elevate the level of suspense. Which, as you looked around the room brimming with students, seemed to work quite well.

"We'll see whose losing, Sallow." You retort, jestfully knocking your shoulder against his.

"Yeah! I bet ten galleons (Y/N) will wipe the floor green with your Slytherin." Leander proclaimed loudly, not afraid to boast your name on your behalf. A gesture you found both flattering and embarrassing.

"You're on, Prewett," Imelda challenges, arms crossed. "This is about to be the easiest ten galleons I've ever won, (Y/N) hardly stands a chance against Sebastian. There is a reason he's been deemed champion for over four years in a row."

"To be fair," Natsai joined, "(Y/N) wasn't here during those years. It is still unclear who the winner will be, though, I do have much faith in my friend."

"Oh, and who helped you predict that? The tea leaves?" Imelda cackled, earning a chilling glare from the Matabelen.

"Pay her no mind, Natty," you offered kindly, wrapping a comforting arm over her shoulders. "She's just jealous you stole the quaffle from her during the Quidditch match last week." Fury ignited in Imelda's eyes as she angrily shifted her threats to you.

"You're going to regret those words, (L/N)," Imelda hissed, stomping off to the other side of the room, some Slytherin quidditch players tailing after. A low whistle following after.
