The second Harry left, Louis broke down and cried, he cried so hard that he could hardly breathe, and instead of crying he was sobbing, because he had never felt this type of pain before, he was 33, and this was the first time his heart had been truly broken.

How had this happened?

How had he lost Harry? It felt so confusing and unexpected, like he had been blindsided.

To Niall: Harry broke up with me

From Niall: I'm coming over

Louis tried to calm himself down, and went to the bathroom to wash his face, but as soon as he managed to stop crying, new tears filled his eyes.

By the time Niall arrived, Louis looked like shit, and his friend hugging him made it even worse.

"I know this is a stupid question, but what happened, Lou?" Niall asked.

"He dumped me" Louis mumbled as he sat down "He basically said he doesn't love me anymore".

"He literally said that?" Niall frowned "Tell me exactly how it went".

Louis took a deep breath, and told everything to his friend, everything that happened since Harry walked inside the flat until he left.

"That's crazy, Lou" Niall considered "And it doesn't make any sense".

"I know" Louis said as he dried the tears from his cheeks "I don't understand it, we had no issues, we never fought, we hardly even disagreed on stuff, and he gave me no signs; even when he said he couldn't go on the trip he said we could go somewhere in September, and even mentioned next summer".

"I'm sorry".

"And he was so sure of it, when he got here he had already made the decision and there was no room for me to try to say anything" Louis said as he tried to process "He said he had been feeling different for a while, but I think back to last month, and nothing changed, everything was the same, he wasn't distant, we talked all the time, not even sex changed".

"Men can be assholes" Niall commented.

"But he's not an asshole, he's not like that" Louis said as he thought about Harry "He's one of the good ones".

"Maybe he was overwhelmed about everything, his business not doing well, what happened with the trip and how you felt about it... so maybe in a few days he'll realize he made a mistake and come back" Niall suggested.

"He won't" Louis shook his head "He's the kind of person who sticks to a decision, and you didn't see him, he was determined".

"Oh"

"But I still don't understand" Louis sighed as he wiped his tears away "I'm starting to think he's a sociopath or something, because how could he fool me like that? How could he pretend to love me for so many months and then take it back out of the blue?".

"I think he did love you, Lou, I could tell by the way he looked at you" Niall commented.

"Part of me wishes he would have cheated or something, so I could at least know for sure why it ended and have proper closure" Louis declared.

"Maybe you could try talking to him again, to really understand".

"I won't reach out to him, not after what he said to me, I'm not going to beg for his love" Louis decided.

"I'm not saying you should beg for his love, I'm saying you should ask for an explanation so you at least can have that closure you want" Niall explained.

"I don't think I would get more out of him than what he already said" Louis replied, and sighed "I just... I hate what he did to me, but I love him so much that I can't even hate him, but I wish I did so I could just forget about him".
