**Chapter Thirty-Six: The Revelation**
Darkwood Manor hummed with a tense, unfamiliar energy. Matthew had called for an urgent family dinner, an unusual occurrence that had everyone on edge. The entire family, including the cousins, arrived with puzzled expressions, unaware of the storm about to be unleashed. Olivia, oblivious to what was coming, assumed this was another one of Matthew's schemes for control, but she had no idea just how far he was willing to go this time.
The dining room was grand, the long table set with the finest silverware, but the atmosphere was cold. The family sat in uneasy silence, their eyes darting toward Matthew, who sat at the head of the table, waiting for everyone to settle. Beside him stood Eliza, her face pale, her hands trembling as she nervously avoided Olivia's gaze.
### **The Dinner Unfolds**
As the servants began serving the meal, Olivia cast a glance around the room, noticing the tense expressions of her relatives. Her cousin Clara fidgeted with her napkin, while Aunt Beatrice whispered something to her husband. But it was Matthew's unnerving stillness that caught Olivia's attention. He was waiting for the perfect moment to strike, and when the room quieted, he rose from his seat.
"Thank you all for coming," he began, his voice calm but carrying a sharp edge. "I have summoned you here tonight because there is a matter of grave importance that concerns this family. A matter that cannot be ignored."
He paused, his eyes locking onto Olivia. A ripple of anxiety washed over her. She knew Matthew was always up to something, but the intensity in his gaze unnerved her.
"Olivia," Matthew said, his voice laced with false concern, "you've kept something from us. Something that could endanger the entire family."
Before Olivia could respond, Matthew pulled a bloodied napkin from his pocket, holding it up for everyone to see. Gasps echoed around the room. Olivia's face drained of color as she realized what it was. She had thought she had hidden the evidence of her recent illness well, but now, here it was, exposed for all to see.
"This," Matthew continued, holding the napkin high, "was found in Olivia's room by our diligent maid, Eliza." He motioned toward Eliza, who stood frozen, her guilt written across her face. "This is not just a stain of blood. This is evidence of a disease—something Olivia has been hiding from us."
### **The Family's Reaction**
The room erupted in shocked whispers, and all eyes turned to Olivia. Clara recoiled in horror, and Aunt Beatrice clutched her husband's arm tightly. "How could you?" Clara shouted, her voice quivering with disgust. "You've been sitting here, among us, while you've been hiding a sickness?"
Olivia opened her mouth to speak, but before she could defend herself, her uncle stood, his face twisted with anger. "You put us all at risk!" he yelled. "How dare you keep this from the family? How long have you been sick?"
Tears welled up in Olivia's eyes as she tried to gather her thoughts. "I... I didn't want to worry anyone," she stammered, her voice barely audible over the din of accusations. "It's nothing serious, I—"
"Nothing serious?" Aunt Beatrice spat, her voice venomous. "You've been bleeding, hiding it from us, and now we're all exposed! You could be diseased!"
Olivia's heart pounded in her chest. She had never imagined that things would spiral this far out of control. The word "diseased" hung in the air like a curse, and she saw the look of revulsion on her family's faces as they recoiled from her as if she were contagious.
### **Eliza's Role**
Eliza, standing to the side, could feel the weight of her betrayal. She hadn't meant for it to go this far. She had simply been following Matthew's orders, but now she found herself in the middle of a family turning against one of their own. Her heart ached for Olivia, but her fear of Matthew kept her silent.
"Tell them, Eliza," Matthew commanded, turning his attention to the maid. "Tell them what you found."
Eliza swallowed hard, her hands shaking. "I... I found the napkin in Lady Olivia's desk," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I thought it was important to inform Lord Matthew... given the... situation."
Olivia's eyes widened as she stared at Eliza, betrayal and hurt etched on her face. "You... you spied on me?" she asked, her voice breaking. "Why would you do this?"
"I'm sorry," Eliza whispered, tears brimming in her eyes. "I didn't know it would go this far."
### **The Accusations Intensify**
The family's anger only grew. "Diseased!" Clara repeated, her voice sharp with accusation. "You've put all of us in danger! How can we trust you after this?"
"I trusted you," Olivia choked, her voice breaking under the weight of her family's judgment. "I trusted all of you."
But her words fell on deaf ears. The family's disgust overshadowed any attempt at explanation or defense. They stood united against her, their loyalty to Matthew overriding any compassion they might have once felt. To them, Olivia was now a threat—a danger to the family's reputation and health.
Matthew, watching the scene unfold, remained calm, his expression unreadable. This was exactly what he had intended. Olivia was now isolated, her family completely turned against her. And with the family rallying behind him, Matthew's control over the household had solidified.
### **The Aftermath**
As the family continued to berate her, Olivia felt her world crumbling. The people she had loved, the people she had believed would support her, had turned their backs on her in the face of Matthew's lies. She was alone now, an outcast in her own home.
Eliza, standing in the background, could only watch in silence as Olivia was condemned. She had made her choice, but the guilt gnawed at her. She had played a part in this, and the weight of that betrayal would haunt her for the rest of her days.
The dinner ended with Olivia fleeing the room, her family's harsh words echoing in her ears. Matthew remained at the head of the table, satisfied with the chaos he had unleashed. His plan had worked perfectly—Olivia was broken, and the family was his to control.
But as the night wore on, and the house settled into uneasy quiet, a storm of emotions brewed beneath the surface. The hidden truth had been revealed, but the consequences were far from over.
