in the ac of 120, two children at the age of ten and twelve were betrothed without their knowledge. a union between house targaryen and house martell.
the children who were betrothed in particular were the eldest daughter of princess and heir rhaenyra targaryen, vaelyna velaryon, and the eldest son of prince qoren martell christane martell.
though vaelyna was not fond of the betrothal, christane was rather happy to spend his years with the princess.
under the wishes of rhaenyra, her daughter would marry at the age of six and ten and would remain in kings landing near her family.
when criticized on her behalf, rhaenyra argumented that vaelyna would inherit the iron throne and should stay by her side if, the gods bless the princess, something happens to rhaenyra.
