"What part of of ''I hate socializing", did you not understand, Jay?" I said to my all time, hella irritating friend, Jay Kapoor.
"Be happy that I haven't given you an official invitation, or it would have been more complicated for you." He said laughing. Jay's mother owns an interior designing firm, and she is retiring, so she has converted her retirement party into a fundraiser cum dance gala, because like that she can help many children's to help with their careers. She is an iconic symbol in the society.
"You know even my parents, Prisha's parents will be there too." I replied to him.
"So what? You hang out with me in the younger section not in the older people section." He said with a chuckle. Someone tell this man to grow up.
"Okay okay, I will come, but on one condition, right now you gonna drag your ass out of my office to let me work." I said massaging my head.
"But you should really get some rest, you have been working tirelessly from the last two weeks, you won't be able to attract girls if you keep this up, babyy." He said with a grin, and I gave him a done face. Whenever I feel like I need a girlfriend, I call up this idiot and he reminds me why I shouldn't get one.
"Get out." I replied, he gave me a mock salute and went out, slamming the door, as usual. But he is right about the rest, I do think I need some.
I haven't been able to sleep since that night at Prisha's home. The memory haunts me every time I close my eyes, as if replaying in a loop. Her tear-streaked face, swollen and raw from crying, fills my thoughts. The redness in her eyes—so full of pain—and the way her voice cracked with every word, caught in her throat by the weight of sorrow, torment me. I can still hear her desperate sobs echoing in the silence of the room. It's a feeling of helplessness that clings to me, like a burden I can't shake off, gnawing at me from the inside.
I closed my laptop, and decided to continue my work at home, not really able to be in the office anymore. I feel like sometimes the walls of the office are chasing me, closing on me as if to suffocate me.
"You haven't left yet?" I asked opening my office door to Jay, who was happily chatting with my secretary Ashton.
"And you Ashton, please get back to your work." I said to Ashton, who nodded and went back to his desk.
"Oh babyy, don't get jealous, you know I only love you." Jay said with a wink following me to elevator.
"And also, you are going where?" he asked eyeing my laptop bag and suit jacket on my hand.
"Penthouse, will work from there till evening until you drop your ass to pick me up." I replied massaging my temples, they hurt like bitch.
"Great, you do need rest to cure those big black bags under those eyes to look insanely handsome tonight. Well, no one is going to notice you beside my handsome face and body, but okay, that doesn't mean you shouldn't fix your appearance." He babbled on.
"Jay?" I asked.
"Yes, pretty boy?" He replied facing me.
"Shut the fuck up." I replied and he made a zipping gesture on his mouth and I exhaled.
"You can drive or should I drop you?" He asked again in the elevator.
"I can drive and thank you for asking." I replied.
"Anytime babygurl." He replied with a grin, he and his endearments are not gonna stop ever.
I entered my penthouse, empty, soundless, cold, just me, a soul living here. I took some sleeping pills, as if they gonna help now and went straight to bed, messaging Jay to wake me up one hour before he decides to drop in.
I woke up from immense shaking, slowly opening my eyes, I saw Jay almost kissing me.
"What are you trying to do?" I asked rubbing my eyes.
"I though you died or something, was gonna give you mouth to mouth." He said sitting beside me.
"I took sleeping pills, I guess they helped this time." I replied getting up.
"Uh uh, how many times have you taken them before?" He asked picking up the tablets from my bedside.
"Six times in two weeks." I replied getting into the washroom before he fire more questions to me.
"That's not at all HEALHTY!!" yet I head him scream from outside.
"As if I don't know." I muttered before starting to get ready. I was done in 15 minutes and head out to living room where Jay has started on his games already.
"You got ready fast, I was just warming up now." He said with a pout.
"Okay, handsome baby boy, time to go. We are already late." I said knocking his head.
"Yupp, let's go." He said getting his car keys from the glass table and following me out of the penthouse.
The drive with Jay can never not be chaotic, and it was one hell of a time before we reached the venue, and were escorted inside.
"Hi beta, how are you?" Mrs. Kapoor said hugging me slightly.
"I am fine Aunty, how have you been? And congratulations on the retirement." I said shaking her hand softly.
"I am also fine and thank you so much. Your parents are that side, if you wanna meet them." She said slowly to me. They know my conditions and circumstances considering Jay has been the only friend through and through of mine.
"I see, thank you and you enjoy now, no stressing about anything." I said and Jay nodded from beside me.
"You wanna meet them or not?" He literally gave me an ultimatum.
"Let's do this for once and for all." I said and he nodded as if going to a battle and would draw an imaginary sword now.
"Hi Maa, Hi Dad." I said approaching them.
"Hello Beta, nice to see you after so long." Dad said patting me on the back.
"How have you been?" Maa asked almost holding back tears.
"Come here Maa." I said opening my arms, and she hugged me tightly. I know I hate them but I can't see them suffering too.
"I missed you." She said to me.
"Me too Maa. See you later then, you enjoy with your friends." I said as some couple approached her, one was Prisha's parents.
"Hello Mayank, and Jay." Mr. Gupta said shaking hands with me and Jay.
"Hello Mr. Gupta." Jay said with a cheeky smile.
"How are you young lads?" He asked smiling.
"We have been good, how have you been?" I asked him politely.
"We are also good, you guys go enjoyy, I saw Prisha with Akshat around the snacks table, as usual." Mrs. Gupta said with a soft laugh.
"We will see you around then." Jay said with a smile and dragged me with him towards the snacks table.
"I am not gonna go to them." I said stopping Jay.
"Why not?" Jay asked and that's how we ended up having the recall of everything happened in last some weeks.
Doesn't it seem like Jay just can't stop digging his own grave? 😂 Seriously though, he's the comic relief we all need.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter and I can't wait to take you all further on Mayank and Prisha's journey, with a whole lot of emotions, drama, and plenty of Jay's shenanigans along the way!
Take care, and see you soon in the next update! 💖
