Dusk settled over Musutafu, casting a golden hue across the towering skyscrapers that lined the city's skyline. The evening was usually tranquil, with families enjoying their time and heroes winding down after a long day. However, that evening had different plans in store for the citizens of the city they had come to trust.

Izuku Midoriya, known as "Deku," stood tall and composed beside his husband, Katsuki Bakugo, the esteemed number one hero. They had been married for two years, and while their relationship had been forged from years of rivalry, it was now a powerful alliance. Midoriya's emerald green eyes shone with determination, while Bakugo's fierce crimson glare twinkled with anticipation.

"We've got this, right?" Midoriya asked, trying to mask his nerves beneath layers of confidence.

"Of course we do! Stop worrying so much, nerd," Bakugo retorted, his tone playful despite the seriousness of the situation. A click of his tongue punctuated his words, his eyes scanning the area for any sign of trouble.

They were responding to reports of a villain, known to harbor a dangerous chemical that could incapacitate their targets. Mysteriously, it had attacked several heroes at once, leaving them vulnerable and weak. A chill ran down Midoriya's spine, a sense of foreboding creeping in as they approached the source of havoc.

The villain, Dr. Kurotsuki, was hiding in an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city. The two heroes entered cautiously, their senses heightened. The interior was dim, the air thick with an unsettling silence. As they ventured deeper, the feeling of dread enveloped them like an icy blanket.

"Let's split up. We can cover more ground that way," Bakugo suggested.

"Okay! Just—be careful," Midoriya replied, his heart racing at the possible outcomes. While the two had fought side by side countless times, there was always an unyielding fear of losing Bakugo—a sentiment Bakugo would scoff at, but one that resonated deeply with Midoriya.

"Yeah, yeah! Just focus, and stop getting in my way," Bakugo snapped back, his usual bravado shining through. With a nod, they separated, each piece of their plan feeling simultaneous thrill and terror.

Moments later, Bakugo heard the echo of footsteps, followed by a cruel laugh. "Ah, the heroes have finally arrived!"

Suddenly, a burst of smoke filled the air. Midoriya rushed toward the sound, his heart pounding in his chest. He arrived just in time to see Bakugo engage the villain. The room illuminated with explosions—bright and fierce—while Midoriya dodged debris.

"Kacchan!" Midoriya yelled. He leapt into action, ready to support his husband. However, the moment he moved, Dr. Kurotsuki unleashed a burst of the volatile chemical, sending a wave of mist throughout the room.

Midoriya barely had time to react as he inhaled the toxic fog. His vision blurred and his senses began to spin. "K-Kacchan...!" he called out weakly, losing his balance.

"Deku!" Bakugo's voice roared through the haze as he struck at Kurotsuki. He looked over just in time to see Midoriya collapse.

Without hesitation, Bakugo launched a series of explosive attacks, sending the villain flying. "You bastard!" he bellowed, filled with adrenaline. But his eyes were still fixated on Midoriya, whose frame lay lifelessly on the ground.

After a fierce battle, Bakugo defeated Dr. Kurotsuki and secured him for the authorities. His heart raced as he rushed to Midoriya's side, cradling his husband's head in his arms. "Deku! Say something! Please!"

Bakugo's heart sank as he felt the warmth of Midoriya's skin fade. The guild of fear twisted within him, a sensation he had never experienced before. His fingers brushed against Midoriya's cheek, and he felt a flicker of hope when he noticed his partner's eyelids fluttering.

Midoriya groaned, his vision reeling back into focus. "Kacchan...? What happened?"

"You were hit by that damn chemical! Can you stand?" Bakugo asked, urgency coursing through his veins.

"I think... I think so," Midoriya said, pushing himself upright, though his body felt strange and heavy. As he fully grasped his surroundings, the adrenaline kicked in once more, but there was something disconcertingly different about him.

Bakugo helped him up as they made their way out of the warehouse, sirens blaring in the distance to signal the impending arrival of support. "You scared me there, nerd," Bakugo admitted quietly, a hint of worry threading through his words.

"I'm okay... I think." Midoriya's voice was softer than usual, the worry on Bakugo's face making him feel guilty.

As they exited, a crowd gathered, and they were greeted with cheers. A moment that should have felt triumphant was partially overshadowed by the aftermath of their battle. Bakugo's momentary smile faded as he noticed Midoriya clutching his side, a subtle grimace crossing the emerald-eyed hero's face.

"Let's get you checked out," Bakugo said, his dominant nature surfacing again. He didn't wait for a response before draping an arm around Midoriya's shoulders and leading him toward the ambulances.

Unbeknownst to either of them, the effects of the chemical would alter the course of their lives forever.
