The air in the room was tense with anticipation. Midoriya sat on the edge of the hospital bed, a bundle of anxious energy all wrapped up in a soft, pastel blanket of thoughts. Six months had passed since they'd learned about the life growing inside him. Neither he nor Bakugo could believe the changes that had swept into their lives. They had faced a myriad of challenges, but this one—this impending parenthood—sat like a wonderful weight on his heart.
"Hey, Deku!" Bakugo called from the doorway, his voice surprisingly gentle, a stark contrast to the fiery nature the world knew him for. His eyes, though tired after a long stretch at the hospital, lit up when they met Midoriya's. "You ready for this?"
Midoriya nodded, a nervous smile creeping onto his face. Today was the day they were finally going to find out the gender of their baby. Just the thought of it sent his heart racing. He couldn't help but picture the child they would soon welcome into their lives—those wide, curious eyes, the little hands wrapping around his fingers, the tiny, soft laughter echoing in their quiet home.
"Let's do this," Bakugo said, stepping into the room. He pulled up a chair next to the bed, taking Midoriya's hand, the warmth of his touch grounding him. "You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay," Midoriya responded, but he couldn't hide his excitement—or the butterflies flitting around in his stomach. They had opted for a private appointment, just the two of them, sharing this moment intimately. They wanted it to be special, separate from the chaos of hero work and the expectations of everyone around them.
The doctor entered the room, a welcoming smile on her face as she carried the ultrasound equipment. "Good morning, gentlemen! Are you both ready for the big reveal?"
"Yes!" they both chimed in unison, laughter following as the doctor set up the machine. Midoriya winced as he remembered the first time he saw their baby on screen, but today, his heart felt lighter, ready for whatever came next.
With a smooth motion, the doctor applied the gel to Midoriya's belly, the room filled with the soft hum of technology as she guided the wand across his growing bump. Midoriya couldn't keep still; he squirmed in anticipation, his mind running wild with thoughts of pink frills or blue trucks decorating their future.
"There's that little one," the doctor said, her voice laced with warmth as the screen illuminated with fuzzy images. "Let's take a look, shall we?"
Midoriya leaned forward, his gaze fixed on the monitor. Lines and blips appeared, painting a picture of their child's form. Even though it was still abstract, every flicker of movement felt like a heartbeat within his own. He could hardly breathe as the doctor scrolled through the images, searching for the reveal point.
And then, she paused. "Well, here we go!"
The room held its breath as the image clarified, and a small silhouette came into focus. Bakugo's grip tightened on Midoriya's hand, his eyes wide with interest. "What's that?" he asked, heart thumping beneath his chest.
"Alright, everyone, are you ready?" The doctor turned to them with a twinkling smile. "I can see you both are keen. Let's confirm..."
And in that instant, there it was—the unmistakable indication of their baby's gender, highlighted on the screen.
"It's a girl!" the doctor announced, her voice booming with excitement.
Midoriya's mouth fell open, his heart racing as he absorbed the revelation. "A girl..." he whispered, tears pricking at the corners of his eyes. A little girl. As he glanced at Bakugo, all of his nerves dissipated. The sight of his husband's expression was worth a thousand words—Bakugo's eyes glimmered, an unusual softness overtaking his typically fierce demeanor.
One moment they were heroes saving the day, and the next, they were about to be parents—parents of a daughter.
Bakugo blinked, then let loose a grin, which was a rare sight, but when it appeared, it was dazzling. "Hell yeah! A daughter! She's going to be as tough as her old man," he declared, holding Midoriya's hand tighter, as if sealing their promise to support and cherish their child together.
Midoriya chuckled through his tears, love swelling between them. "And sweet like her mama," he added, leaning closer. "She'll be amazing, just like you."
As the moment sank in deeper, they found themselves enveloped in quiet laughter, sharing soft glances that spoke volumes against the backdrop of the hospital room. They discussed baby names and what color to paint the nursery—ideas flowing between them like a blossoming river, full of potential and love.
Before long, the doctor left them alone to settle their emotions. Midoriya leaned back against the pillows, Bakugo still nervously fidgeting in his seat as he looked at Midoriya.
"Damn, we're gonna have a kid," he said, mostly to himself, but the sidelong glance at Midoriya revealed the ferocity of his love, his passion for their future family.
"Yeah," Midoriya laughed lightly, wiping at the stray tears that fell. "Are you scared?"
Bakugo paused, then shook his head. "No way. I'm ready for this." Resolute, he looked Midoriya in the eye, his usual bluster growing in strength. "Nothing will get in the way of our family."
"Nothing," came Midoriya's quiet promise, feeling the love that had only deepened during Midoriya's unpredictable pregnancy. The whirlwind of emotions had transformed them both but left them stronger, more connected than ever before.
The rest of the day flitted by in a blur of planning and excitement. They discussed everything from baby showers to diaper bags, what hero gear they'd be able to put on their little girl—everything that would weave into the fabric of their real-tangible lives together.
As they got ready to leave the hospital, Bakugo turned to Midoriya with a thoughtful gaze. "We should tell our parents."
Midoriya paused, their hearts racing with the prospect. His breath quickened at the thought of sharing this exciting news with their families. "You think they'll be... happy?"
Bakugo smirked, a familiar spark igniting in his eyes. "Happy? They're going to freak out when they realize it's us having a kid." He shook his head, trailing off. "But yeah, they'll be happy. Let's do it."
And with that, they stepped into the next chapter, the world ahead of them vibrant, alive, and undeniably full of hope. It was a leap into the unknown, but they weren't afraid. They had each other, and soon, they would have a little girl to nurture, love, and protect. The adventure was only just beginning.
