"She's killing him!" I screamed. "Find a way inside! Hurry!" I was barely coherent as Dex focused his eyes on the door.

"Okay, I'm trying!" Dex said, glaring at the still unmoving door. "I need to use telekinesis to open this!"

"Let me try!" I stood next to him and tried very hard to concentrate, but my mind was a complete mess.

"It's okay, Kristen, I can do it. I just need to focus."

My hands trembled as I watched a young girl with slick black hair covering Rob's mouth with duct tape. His arms and legs had already been covered, and she was going for his eyes next.

"HURRY!" I panicked.

"I'm trying!" The girl lowered her hands, smiling and saying things I couldn't hear at Rob's motionless body. What on earth was happening?

"Dex..." I felt dizzy now. I couldn't look anymore. "I need to sit down."

"Yeah!" Dex rejoiced. "I opened it!"

"You're a genius!" I exclaimed, suddenly alert. Hope wasn't lost yet, and we would continue fighting until it was.

"You got through the force field," the girl inside gave us a crooked smile. "I didn't know students could do that."

"What are you doing to him?" I demanded.

"Well, he was already going to die. Why not have a bit of fun?"

"But you could've tried to save him!" I choked, my tears coming back. I barely realized how much older the girl was getting as she tore off the next piece of duct tape.

"Stop it," I said. I needed to stay strong to save Rob. I grabbed the duct tape from the girl, who was now a middle aged woman.

"That's alright. He's already dead." She said, smiling that same crooked smile as traces of wrinkles started to appear on her face...

"Miss Washington." Dex's mouth hung open. "You were the one who helped me fake an injury to skip Skills! How could you—" I wasn't shocked. She'd been acting super suspicious the whole time. Plus, a random girl couldn't have appeared from nowhere.

"Dex, can you deal with her? I need to find the elixirs to save him," I said, already rummaging through the shelves.

"What? How—"

"Please?" I looked at all the labels on the shelves. Wounds...Surgery Tools... Band Aids... Elixirs... The bottom shelf was unnamed. There were massive bottles of the dangerous red liquid. I tried to keep myself together for just a little bit longer.

What was I even looking for? I wasn't familiar with elvin elixirs! I took another deep breath. Maybe composing myself would help me find...what? Find what? I needed help—

"Is everything okay, Miss Washington?" A crisp voice called from the doorway. A boy who looked about the same age as me stood there, his features sharp, and his dark brown hair was neatly cropped. He had the most beautiful teal eyes I'd ever seen, and he was wearing a blue sash with the word "PREFECT" written on it in big, bold letters, as if it were a threat.

His eyes flickered across the room, landing on Rob's motionless body.

"Help," I croaked, but I knew it was useless. He was already gone.

"Oh, everything's going jolly well, Rupert!" Miss Washington chirped. She should be grateful there wasn't a sword in the room. I would've smashed her—

"Is he alright?" Rupert asked, gesturing to Rob.

"Of course, my favorite prodigy!" Miss Washington said, smiling. "You know how operations are. I was trying to block you out to save your—"
