When it's THAT time of the year again

There was one time of the year Sendak hated the most and it always happened during early summer; early summer on Daibazaal could be a bit humid because of the rain and during that time his fur was very frizzy. Sendak had to deal with his frizzy fur problem ever since he was a child and sometimes it was almost unmanageable, even with the help of the special shampoo and conditioner he bought from a store on altea. Since (Y/n) had never seen him with frizzy fur he wasn't sure how she would react to it, and Sendak was kind of afraid of what her reaction would be. Everyone with skin and scales loved the humidity, especially Zarkon and others like him, although those with fur generally had it the hardest. Back when Sendak was young his whole family had frizzy fur during the humid part of summer; his parents and siblings still had that issue, and unfortunately he did too, alas he had to deal with it to the best of his ability.

During the first morning of his frizziness Sendak decided to hide in his bedroom for a while because he was afraid of what (Y/n) would think of him, unfortunately he knew that he couldn't hide from her forever. He managed to skip going to breakfast by having a servant bring it to him in his bedroom, but by doing so he felt guilty because he wasn't there to greet his significant other that morning. (Y/n) had been extremely confused because Sendak wasn't waiting for her that morning like he usually did and when she knocked on his bedroom door she didn't receive an answer, then during breakfast he wasn't sitting at the table. She tried asking Kumo and Vrul where Sendak was, but all they did was look at each other and snicker as though something was funny. Finally, after breakfast, (Y/n) decided to ask Zarkon if he knew where Sendak was.

The galran emperor wasn't at the table because he'd eaten breakfast outside in the garden which seemed a little unusual, then when she went outside she felt how humid it was. The humidity felt amazing to Zarkon and he often enjoyed lounging shirtless out in the garden on a comfortable lawn chair, and sometimes he even had breakfast or lunch brought outside to him. He was well aware of Sendak's condition due to the humidity, but unlike Kumo and Vrul he wasn't the type to think Sendak's frizziness was funny. When (Y/n) found Zarkon lounging on his lawn chair out in the garden she tried not to stare at his bare torso so as to seem polite, even though she had a slight curiosity about his scales. Zarkon understood that the human woman was curious about his body structure given how different he was compared to others of his kind, so he didn't say anything about it because he didn't want to make her feel embarrassed.

“I- I hope that I'm not bothering you, but would you happen to know where Sendak is this morning?” (Y/n) hesitantly asked Zarkon once she stood a few feet away from where he sat, curious about the whereabouts of her absent boyfriend.

“Was he not at breakfast this morning?” Zarkon inquired, already knowing that Sendak must have been embarrassed about being so frizzy.

“No, and when I knocked on his bedroom door he didn't answer.” (Y/n) replied, worried that something was wrong or that Sendak went somewhere.

“He probably is in his bedroom, but he's too embarrassed to let you see him. When the weather gets humid his fur gets extremely frizzy and there's very little he can do about it.” Zarkon responded thoughtfully, but he still gave (Y/n) an explanation as to why Sendak wasn't seen that morning.

“Frizzy? It can't be that bad, right?” (Y/n) questioned, unaware that Sendak's little problem was really bad.

“It depends on how much humidity he's been exposed to. It's better if you see for yourself.” Zarkon answered with a sigh; if Sendak hadn't left his bedroom yet, then his frizziness was really bad.

“Alright, I'll go try knocking on his door again. Thank you for your time.” (Y/n) concluded prior to thanking Zarkon, knowing that there was only so much he could do to help her.

Zarkon was happy to help (Y/n); if she could get through to Sendak then perhaps she could get him to come out of his bedroom. While he returned to his usual lounging, (Y/n) went straight to Sendak's room with the intention of convincing him to either come out or let her in, she didn't care how frizzy his fur looked. On her way to her destination she couldn't help but wonder if Sendak's fur created static electricity like cats did, it would certainly be interesting to find out whether or not her hypothesis was right. Sendak was conflicted about what to do about his situation; he really wanted to see (Y/n), but at the same time he thought that she would think less of him. His ears perked up when he heard a knock on his door and he considered not answering again, then he decided to get up and open the door.

“I was worried about you when you didn't come to breakfast and then Zarkon told me that you had a probl-. Is that it? It's not as bad as I thought.” (Y/n) began to say when Sendak slowly opened his bedroom door until she saw him, and in reality his frizziness wasn't necessarily too bad; he looked like a cat with its fur standing on end and it kind of made him look like a big ball of fluff, although she thought he looked cute.

“I know; I apologize for worrying you. I just wasn't sure how you would react to all… this.” Sendak responded apologetically, his ears lowered in shame as he stood to the side and invited his girlfriend into his room.

(Y/n) stepped forward and walked into her boyfriend's bedroom, wishing that he was shirtless so that she could see just how frizzy he was. She never thought that she would see Sendak's fur stand on end and she still wasn't sure if he could create static electricity with it, she would need to touch him in order to find out. Sendak closed his door after (Y/n) was in his room; it was their alone time and he didn't want anyone to interrupt them, even though they weren't going to do anything sexual together yet. He stepped in front of (Y/n) and knelt down in front of her, promptly pulling her in for a passionate good morning kiss. (Y/n) cupped the sides of Sendak's face when he kissed her, but when she felt a slight shock against the tips of her fingers she promptly pulled them away and giggled.

“What's so funny?” Sendak queried after he pulled away from the kiss and opened his eyes, curious as to what made her laugh.

“You have static electricity.” (Y/n) answered, beaming at him while gazing into his eyes.

“I'm sorry.” Sendak responded shyly, averting his gaze while he lowered his ears again.

“I think you look cute when you're fluffy. Now, since you didn't greet me this morning like you usually do, I want more kisses.” (Y/n) mentioned suggestively before she requested more kisses from him.

Sendak's ears shot up and he couldn't resist kissing his girlfriend again; if someone else who he wasn't particularly close with were to call him cute then it would be an insult, but since (Y/n) called him cute it was a huge compliment. Knowing that she didn't think he looked funny made Sendak feel better about his frizziness and it gave him a new boost of confidence, he would have to send a message to his family later that he found himself an amazing mate. There wasn't much he could do to tame his frizzy fur until the humidity in the air went away, so until then he would just have to deal with it. Despite the slight Zap of static electricity (Y/n) ran her fingers through Sendak's fur, unable to resist touching her lover after going so long without seeing him. She understood what it was like to have frizzy hair and she wanted him to know that it didn't bother her; she loved Sendak no matter what and a few weeks of bad hair days weren't so bad, and for the first time in his life he didn't care about his frizziness.
