In the praise found in Luke 1:51, the phrase "He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts" encapsulates a profound truth about God's judgment against those who exalt themselves against Him. The proud are often those who trust in their own strength, wisdom, or righteousness, believing they can stand apart from God's will and authority. As we approach the prophetic vision of the Great Tribulation, the character of these proud individuals becomes increasingly evident, particularly as many choose to follow the Antichrist and receive the Mark of the Beast, indicating their complete rejection of God's almighty power. (Revelation 13:16-18)

Revelation vividly describes this period of turmoil and the consequent judgment that befalls those who align themselves with evil. In Revelation 19:11, the scene shifts dramatically to the revelation of Christ as the conquering King: "And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war." Here, we see the ultimate demonstration of divine authority and power as the proud, represented by the followers of the Antichrist, are compelled to face judgment. Their attempts to establish a false order through rebellion will be thwarted as the Lord returns with righteous indignation to scatter them, rendering their pride and schemes utterly ineffective.

The proud during the Great Tribulation are characterized by their willingness to abandon their moral and spiritual compass, drawn instead by the promises of power, wealth, and protection that the Antichrist offers. In Isaiah 63:1-6, the prophet speaks of the Lord's vengeance coming forth as a warrior: "Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save." These verses emphasize the contrast between the proud who follow their own imaginations and the Savior who prevails with divine strength. The proud may believe they are invincible, but the reality is that their arrogance results in their ultimate scattering.

The term "imagination of their hearts" suggests that pride often stems from delusions of grandeur—a false sense of security against the backdrop of God's omnipotence. Jeremiah 17:9 reflects on the heart's deceptive nature: "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" This deceit is particularly potent during the Tribulation, as many will have surrendered their spirits to the lies propagated by the Antichrist, deluding themselves into believing they can prosper apart from God. Their hearts, filled with self-centered imaginings, lead to a catastrophic downfall when faced with God's judgment.

Further illustrating this, Proverbs 16:18 warns, "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." The followers of the Antichrist, with their prideful hearts, will ultimately find themselves scattered by the very power they sought to oppose. God, in His justice and might, will act decisively, demonstrating that all human pride crumbles before His holiness.

As seen in James 4:6, "God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble." The ultimate display of God's power will indeed scatter the proud, but for those who yield their hearts to Him, grace and redemption are found.

These proud individuals, who choose to embrace the deception of the Antichrist during the Great Tribulation, may appear powerful for a season; however, their end is destruction. God, in His perfect wisdom and strength, will bring about His righteous judgment, scattering their schemes and revealing that true strength lies in humility before the Creator.
