The rest of the car ride passed in a tense silence, with Olympia dozing off and Ares trying to keep his focus on the road. When they finally arrived at her house, he carried her inside, trying not to notice the way her body felt against his.
The next morning, Olympia woke up with a wicked hangover and fuzzy memories of the night before. She remembered the party, and the alcohol she had consumed, but everything else was a blur.
Olympia stumbled out of bed and into the bathroom, where she splashed cool water on her face. She looked at her reflection in the mirror, her hair a tangled mess and her eyes bloodshot.
As she tried to remember, small fragments of the night before floated in and out of her mind. Flashes of the party, the taste of alcohol, and the feeling of someone's hands on her skin. But it was all hazy, like a half-remembered dream.
Shaking off the lingering memories, Olympia shrugged and made her way downstairs to find her mom. As she entered the kitchen, she found her mom sipping coffee and reading the newspaper.
"Hey," Olympia said, her voice groggy. "I feel like death."
Olympia took the glass of water gratefully and took a few sips, feeling the cool liquid slide down her throat. She sat down at the table, resting her head in her hands.
"I don't remember much of last night," she admitted, feeling a twinge of guilt for letting herself get that drunk.
Her mom patted her shoulder reassuringly.
"It's okay, honey," she said. "You're 18 now, and it's natural to explore and have fun. Just be careful and don't do it too often."
Olympia glanced around, noticing that her dad was nowhere to be seen.
"Is dad gone ??" she asked, curious and still slightly disoriented.
Her mom smiled warmly and replied, "Yes, he left for a business trip early this morning. He said not to worry, and that he loves you very much."
Olympia smiled, feeling a pang of loneliness despite her mom's reassurance.
"I miss him already," she admitted, her voice soft. "He always knows how to make me laugh."
Her mom saw the hint of sadness in Olympia's eyes and nudged her playfully.
"Hey," she said, winking. "Don't get too mopey on me now. You'll see him again soon."
Olympia chuckled weakly and pushed her mom's hand away playfully.
"Yeah, yeah, I know," she said, rolling her eyes. "But it's still tough being without him. We're pretty close, you know that."
Olympia laughed and stuck out her tongue at her mom.
"Of course I'm a daddy's girl," she said with a wink. "Haven't you noticed."
Her mom raised an eyebrow and rolled her eyes affectionately.
"Oh, trust me, I've noticed," she said, chuckling. "He can't say no to you to save his life."
Olympia grinned, feeling a wave of affection for her dad.
"Yeah, he's pretty whipped," she agreed, unable to suppress a grin. "I always know just the right puppy-dog eyes to make him cave."
Her mom laughed and shook her head.
"You've had him wrapped around your little finger since you were a baby," she teased. "He'd do anything for you, and you know it."
Her mom, sensing Olympia's need for a distraction, suggested, "Hey, since you're feeling a bit down, why don't we go shopping? It'll be fun, and you can pick out some new clothes."
