The first week back at Hogwarts was a whirlwind of excitement for Lexi. After a summer filled with solitude and uncertainty, being back in the castle brought her a sense of belonging that she had missed dearly. The familiar sounds of laughter, the smell of pumpkin pasties wafting through the Great Hall, and the enchantment of the castle itself made her heart swell with joy.

Classes resumed, and Lexi threw herself into her studies. Potions, Transfiguration, and Charms filled her days, each lesson reigniting her passion for learning. With every bubbling cauldron and swish of her wand, she felt more alive than ever. For the first time in months, she felt free from the weight of her emotions regarding Mattheo.

But as the days passed, she noticed the growing tension in the air. Conversations among students buzzed with whispers about the impending N.E.W.T.s and the challenges that lay ahead. Lexi kept herself focused, determined to excel in her studies.

During Potions class, the atmosphere was charged with anticipation. Professor Slughorn had announced they would be brewing Amortentia, the most powerful love potion known to wizardkind. Lexi's heart raced at the thought of working with the potion; it was both thrilling and nerve-wracking.

As the class began, Lexi worked diligently alongside Enzo, discussing the intricate ingredients needed for the potion. She was so engrossed in the task that she almost forgot about the unresolved tension with Mattheo. Until, of course, Professor Slughorn called him to the front of the classroom.

"Now, who can tell me what makes Amortentia unique?" Slughorn asked, his eyes twinkling as students raised their hands eagerly.

Mattheo got pushed to the front by Theo, his tall frame commanding attention. Lexi couldn't help but glance over, her heart doing an involuntary flip at the sight of him. He had transformed even more over the summer, his confidence radiating in the way he carried himself.

As the lesson progressed, Slughorn instructed Mattheo to take a whiff of Amortentia that had been brewed in front of the class. "Now, Mattheo, tell us what you smell"

Mattheo leaned closer to the cauldron, inhaling deeply. "Um..." he started, glancing around the room. "I smell... cherry's, vanilla and like fresh parchment"

The realization hit her like a bolt of lightning. Mattheo's feelings for her were deeper than she had realized. For a brief moment, everything else faded away-the whispers, the teasing, even Enzo's questions. It was just the two of them, caught in a moment that felt almost magical.

"Very good, Mattheo!" Slughorn beamed, clearly pleased. "Amortentia is indeed a reflection of what one desires most. It seems you have quite a few pleasant associations!"

Lexi's heart raced, a mixture of joy and confusion flooding her mind. Could he still have feelings for her? She had spent so long trying to ignore him, yet here he was, in front of the entire class, revealing his desires in a way that made her question everything.

As the lesson continued, Lexi found it increasingly difficult to focus. The air felt charged, and she could sense Mattheo's gaze on her, a weighty silence hovering between them. For once, it felt like they were on the same page, even if neither of them dared to speak about it openly.

After class, as students filed out, Lexi stayed back, gathering her things. Enzo walked ahead, chatting with their classmates, but Lexi's mind was elsewhere. She could feel Mattheo approaching, the tension in the air thickening.

"Hey," he said, his voice low, almost hesitant.

"Hey," Lexi replied, trying to keep her tone neutral, though her heart raced.

"I, um... I wasn't like ignoring you during summer," he said, rubbing the back of his neck.

Lexi just looks at him "felt like it"

"I know," he said, his expression serious. "But it's true. I was really busy"

Her heart fluttered at his words, but she reminded herself of the summer, the silence, the confusion. "You should've reached out," she said, keeping her voice steady.

Mattheo took a step closer, his gaze intense. "I know I messed up."

Lexi felt the walls she had built around her heart beginning to crumble. "It takes two minutes to send a simple text."

"I didn't want to drag you into my chaos," he replied, his voice earnest.

As they stood there, the weight of their unspoken feelings hung in the air. Lexi felt a rush of hope but also fear. What if they opened this door only to find it led to more complications?

"I don't want to complicate things," she said quietly, her heart pounding.

"it's already complicated," Mattheo said, his eyes locked on hers. "But I want to try, Lexi. I want to see where this goes."

Lexi's heart raced as she contemplated his words. Maybe it was time to stop ignoring the connection between them. Maybe it was time to take a chance.

"Okay," she said finally, her voice barely above a whisper.

And in that moment, they both knew that their journey was far from over-it was just beginning.
