Mark walks through the dark woods after his fight at the arena against Brandon Jenkins, silencing the nocturnal symphony.
Mark's POV
I step silently through the woods, my boots barely making a sound on the damp earth. The trees loom above me, their branches creaking softly in the wind. I adjust my backpack, feeling the weight of my gear settle into place.
As I walk, the forest's nocturnal symphony begins to fade. The crickets cease their chirping, and the owls fall silent. I smile to myself, knowing the reason.
"I'm the reason the woods have gone quiet," I say aloud, my voice barely above a whisper. "When the sounds of the forest stop, it's not because the animals are afraid to make noise. It's because they sense a predator nearby."
I stop and scan my surroundings. The darkness feels like it's closing in on me.
"And that predator is me."
I keep walking, my footsteps quiet on the forest floor.
"I have been hunting bears, deer, wild hogs, wolverines, and mountain lions for years, using them as a food source. It's not just for survival; it's a necessity. You see, I'm a Demi-Human."
I looked up at the stars, my eyes reflecting on the past.
"Demi-humans are humans who carry radioactive gas in their veins. In response to this contamination, the earth forced humans to reconnect with nature in a more primal way. This resulted in a mutation that granted us supernatural powers and abilities while maintaining our human appearance."
I shook my head, recalling the ancient stories.
Centuries ago, five of the most powerful nations initiated a nuclear war that devastated the world. The aftermath resulted in only three percent of the human population surviving, almost half of them being affected by radiation. This led to the spread of mutation, and the emergence of Demi-Humans.
My thoughts turn personal.
"I'm a descendant of those survivors, but my story is different. I wasn't born with these powers... That's a tale for another time."
The trees thin out, and I approach a cave concealed behind a waterfall. I duck beneath the falling water, feeling the cool mist enveloping me.
