Mark scanned the room, his gaze locking onto familiar faces - and one not-so-familiar, yet unmistakable figure, figure: The man's scowl depended, his eyes blazing with resentment.
Alessandro's discreet nod directed Mark to the empty chair beside him.
"Mark, please, take a seat," Alessandro said, his voice low.
As Mark sat, a soft voice announced, "The General is here."
The room rose to its feet, except for Mark. Alessandro's whispered prompt, "Stand, Mark," brought him upright.
"Show respect, Mark," Alessandro murmured.
Mark stood, his eyes fixed on the entrance.
The General entered, flanked by armed guards, their rifles ready. General's imposing figure commanded attention - tall and around six-foot-three, broad-shouldered, with piercing green eyes and chiseled features. His dark hair was flecked with gray, and a sharp jawline accentuated his authoritative presence.
General Ryker (Johannes Ryker)
"Ladies and gentleman, I am General Ryker, commander of New Eden's military forces," he declared, his voice deep and commanding.
His attention turned to Mark, his hand extending in greeting.
"Mark, welcome. I've heard a great deal about your... unique skills. I must say, I'm intrigued."
Mark shook the General's hand, their grips meeting in a firm clasp. A spark of surprise flickered in General's eyes, mirrored in Mark's.
Their handshake were not those of ordinary men.
The General's grip, like Mark's, was supernatural or... a Demi-Human - Surpassing human strength.
"Your grip is... impressive," General Ryker remarked.
"Yours as well," Mark replied, his tone neutral.
The General's smile hinted at curiosity.
"Please, let us sit," he said, gesturing to the chairs.
As they sat, Alessandro leaned in.
"General Ryker, I believe Mark would be interested in learning more about our community," he suggested.
General Ryker nodded.
"Indeed. Mark, we've been watching you. Your combat skills are unmatched. I believe you'd be an invaluable asset to our community."
Mark's guarded expression betrayed no emotion, but his mind whirled with questions.
"What do you mean by 'asset'?" Mark asked, his voice cautious.
General Ryker leaned forward, his eyes glinting.
"I'll be blunt, Mark. We need people with your skills to protect our community from external threats. We're willing to offer you a place among us, with benefits and responsibilities."
