After dinner I say my goodbyes to Jude and Gwen, who are in charge of clearing our table today. Unlike other nights, when Gretchen, the kitchen lady serves us Chicken Marsala and schwarma, I feel super energized because I just ate a whole plate of Greek salad.
I haven't been at the library since my first day here when I got lost, and I gotta say I miss reading. I walk to the door that leads to the library after sending my goodbyes to Jude and Gwen. I wonder if they got any Abbi glides on their shelves or maybe Sylvia day. I smile a my mind's mention of Sylvia Day. She was Cee-Cee's favorite adult novels author. Cele-Cee was...and still is my best friend from my previous. Although I had many friends, she's the one I grew up with. The only one who knows about my family and our gifts. She has always known. Cee-cee has no form giftof ,which or anything, she just happens to be born in a family that believes in philosophies and the underworld. Her mother is a Seeker, Seekers are like messengers. They were known to carry out messages in the 1400 to the supernaturals, in favour of our kind keeping them safe from danger from other species from the underworld who fed on him an blood.
So Cee-Cele and I are pretty tight. Although I doubt her mom is still a seeker. she complained about how dangerous it is to become one nowadays that times have changed. Her husband Cee-cee's father disappeared when we were kids, a few days after Uncle Vincent's first attack, before we knew he has recruited back up. I guess Mrs Hutchenson vowed to not get involved in anything supernaturals. But she and my parents till talk, they are neighbors after all.and they couldn't keep me and Cee-Cele from being friends, she knows way too much already anyway.
I take out my phone when I get to the library and walk to the history shelves, the forever empty one. I saw a few students using the computers and some studying when I walked in, so I have to keep it on the low if I wanna make a phone call before I forget. I dial Cee-cee's number. A picture of us in bathing suits at the water park appears, my caller id picture for her.mots an old picture, from sophomore year, but it still a rather pleasant memory of things and people I
Left at him."Hey Cecelia here" I smile as I hear her voice, I know she must be with her mom and step dad because she uses her full name, just as Mrs Hutchenson prefers.
"Cee-cee!" I say cheerfully, earning some stares from some of the students that sat on the floor turning the pages of a very big book.i shrug apologetically.
"Damn girl where have you been? I missed you" Cee-Cece says on the other side of the line.
"In prison" I snicker. Making cee-Cele snort.
"You wouldn't survive a day behind bars in that orange onside they wear"
"Jumpsuit" I correct her
She laughs and sighs. Silence follows "how are you holding up though"
"I'm fine. It was hard to leave home at the beginning. But I'm fine now"
"Mel and the other girls miss you"
"I miss them too. Send them virtual kisses for me"
"mia?"
"Yes?"
"Mom says Vincent is sniffing around for you. If it was Layla he wanted, he would have torn her little apartment apartment long time ago, along with Will in it" I sigh. I should've known. Vincent wanted me, he wanted to feast on me. I still don't know why, I never did I him wrong. Why do I have to pay for my grandparents' mistakes.
"I don't wanna be turned Cee-Cele" I say. Stating the obvious, if Vincent wants payback from my parents then turning me will be the best thing he could do to turn my life into a big ball of burning gas. Disaster.
