Chapter Five: Unmasking the Nightmare
The moment Michelle and Jacob completed the final night of FNAF 4, the scenery around them flickered again. The dark, suffocating bedroom dissolved into pixels, and they were transported back to the main room—the ominous level selector glowing eerily in front of them.
Michelle let out a slow, shaky breath, her eyes still wide with the terror she had barely managed to contain. Jacob kept his arm around her, his hand rubbing her shoulder soothingly. "We did it. That was the last one. Fifteen levels… we made it through."
The glowing screen confirmed it. All fifteen levels were complete, each one marked with a digital checkmark. Jacob scanned the screen, taking in the list of familiar horrors—FNAF 1, 2, 3, 4, Sister Location, and others. Michelle leaned against him, exhausted but relieved. They had survived.
But something wasn’t right.
As Jacob hovered over the main selection panel, the game made a sudden, strange noise—a low, mechanical whirring followed by a faint, metallic click. Michelle’s head snapped up, her eyes narrowing at the screen.
“What… what was that?” she muttered.
Jacob’s hand moved across the tablet, selecting random areas of the display, but nothing seemed different. That’s when a small, almost hidden icon appeared at the bottom of the screen—barely visible, a faint outline of a mask.
“Wait,” Jacob whispered, tapping on the icon. The screen immediately changed, flickering with static before displaying a new, more sinister menu.
A haunting voice echoed from the tablet, one they hadn’t heard before: “Remove the mask. Face the truth.”
Suddenly, an image flashed onto the screen—a security mask, old and weathered. As the voice droned on, the screen shifted again, and the mask was virtually removed, revealing something underneath—something darker, more chaotic. The levels they had just completed reappeared, but now they were distorted, corrupted, and far more menacing.
Michelle gasped, clutching Jacob’s arm tightly. “What… what is this?”
The tablet now displayed a new set of levels, each one more dangerous than the last. These weren’t the same levels they had faced. The familiar environments were there, but everything had been amplified—more animatronics, more distractions, more terror.
Jacob’s eyes narrowed as he scanned the screen. “They’ve increased the difficulty… these levels—they’re all the same, but different. More intense.”
Michelle could feel her heart pounding in her chest again, that same dread creeping back in. “This can’t be happening… we just made it through fifteen levels… and now there’s more?”
The voice from the game echoed again: “Remove the mask, and face the truth of your past.”
“Truth of our past?” Jacob muttered. He turned toward Michelle, concern in his eyes. “Do you think this… this is connected to what happened before? To your brother? To William?”
Michelle shuddered at the thought. Her mind flashed back to the images of Ballora, to the twisted animatronics that had haunted her dreams. “I don’t know… but if William is behind this… if this is somehow connected to CC… then we have to keep going. We have to finish this.”
Jacob’s jaw clenched. “You sure? We don’t know how much worse this could get.”
Michelle nodded, though fear was etched on her face. “I’m sure.”
Before they could select one of the new levels, the screen flickered again, and an unexpected prompt appeared: Collect the Faz Force.
Six small figures appeared in the corners of the screen—each one a digital version of the animatronics they had encountered along the way. These weren’t just decorative figures; they were keys.
