The years flew by, Kirby had gone off to study quite a long way from Woodsboro and the student had had to say goodbye to Jan. Since the attack she had suffered, Kirby had been taking care of little Jane, acting as babysitter and the two had got to know each other very well, so Jane was devastated to learn that Kirby had to leave for her studies as she idolised her. They had spent several months together and had formed a strong bond; they considered each other to be sisters.
Now it was Jane's turn to finish high school, a fateful ordeal if you take into account that there's the baccalaureate to pass and college acceptances that can define a person's career path. In Jane's case, she only had one more year to go and she would finally be able to leave Woodsboro to study journalism in New York. She has clear goals in life: to make her family proud, to become a journalist and to date the boy of her dreams. However, the boy she liked was already dating another girl called Liv McKenzie, and the two girls hated each other. The two had once been friends, but their friendship had not lasted long because of Liv's questionable associations.
Jane had joined the school newspaper, but sometimes regretted her choice because all she had to write about were ridiculous cases, whereas she dreams of something bigger instead of writing about the changes in the canteen food or writing about a cheerleader who has done a good deed to prove that she not only looks good but also has a good conscience. She has no freedom over what she writes, unlike other members of the newspaper who have a choice about what they write about.
When she heard about Tara Carpenter, Jane was quick to send a message, even though she knew the brunette wouldn't reply immediately, and she also sent one to Amber Freeman, Tara's best friend. Neither of the girls replied to Jane's messages, Amber had left her a vu and Tara hadn't opened the message.
- Nobody's answering me..I won't get any answers, that's fine. Jane breathed against her kitchen counter.
- Who's not answering you, darling? Jane's mother asked after sipping some of the coffee in her hand.
- Tara Carpenter and Amber Freeman. Jane replied, checking her phone again to see if Tara had opened her message. Still no answer, Amber left me on read and Tara hasn't opened my message. She put her phone down on the counter.
- Tara Carpenter, isn't that the girl who was attacked in her house? Jane's mother had already heard Tara's name somewhere.
- It's her! There's even been talk of Ghostface's return since she was attacked, it's all the media are talking about. Says Jane very seriously. I sent Kirby a message on Instagram and her other networks to warn her that it's happening again.
- Do you really think someone else would do such an atrocity? Jane's mother began to worry about her daughter, the killer always targets teenagers.
- Mum... Anything's possible! You remember Kirby and her best friend, it happened several years after the attack in 1998... A comeback is possible and I wouldn't even be surprised if it was Tara's best friend who did it to her. Jane opened up about her thoughts and feelings on the situation, and she was right when she said that anything is possible.
- Instead of wondering about that, you should be working on your recycling story. Jane's mother insisted that she think about something else because she knew how much her daughter could get involved in the Ghostface story and she wants her daughter to stay away from all that.
- I'd much rather be investigating Ghostface than having to write an article about recycling, plus no-one's going to read what I've written, I've always got a tiny little space and nothing but 3 or 5 lines... She picks up her phone again and looks at her notifications, still nothing. They keep shortening my articles.
