FOR ONCE, you seemed to have forgotten about the disease growing in your body and a certain navy haired boy has managed to drift your mind to the present just by smiling.

It was already dusk and you managed to sneak away from the girls that kept trying to ask about your love life. You never really involved yourself with the class, if not Mina and Jirou, so this class trip really shaped your relationships with others and you were incredibly thankful.

However, your social battery has definitely drained. You closed the sliding door and sighed to yourself, the girls continued to laugh and chat, their volume ricocheting in the hall ways. You slid open a door and was immediately welcomed by a cold chilling night. You cuddled yourself, desperate for warmth as you walked further until you found a comfortable spot to sit down.

It was an open area, you hung your feet from the wood floor to meet the sandy ground. The beach was a few meters away, you could hear the waves wash up onto the shore, small bugs and critters chirping in the distance, the salty smell of the water filling your lungs. You felt the sand between your toes as you leaned back on your arms and indulged in the silence.

(the outside is like a beach ifykwim)

You heard a door open and felt the footsteps of a familiar passerby. You opened your eyes and tilted your head to see Tenya staring at you sternly.

'Y/n, you should be asleep.'

'Shouldn't you be asleep to?' You say back and he froze and then relaxed his shoulders before finding a comfortable spot next to you.

'You're not wrong,' He sighed, 'I always find it hard to fall asleep in unfamiliar places.'

You nodded and continued to listen to the sounds of the waves.

'You know, I never got to ask,' You began.

'Hm?'

'Why,' You say, 'Why do you help me? If not out of pity, why else?'

He was quiet for a few seconds, 'As the class representative-.'

'I find it hard to believe that that is the only reason.' You interrupted with a smile.

He thought again, 'You're a very peculiar person.'

His words caught your attention as you glanced over to him.

'I've noticed you, since the first day of high school. You were always quiet, kept to yourself. It only made me more curious.'

You silently listened.

'What was your favourite colour? What were things that you liked to do?' He sighed, 'I was mad, honestly, that I didn't try to reach out to you before this.'

'When I found out about your disease, I selfishly took that as an opportunity to get to know you better,' He admitted.

You eyes grew agape, 'And you never reached out to me before this because..?'

His eyebrows furrowed and shrugged, 'I was scared, perhaps. Maybe it was because of your illness that made me want to put myself out there, take a risk, you know? I'm not the best at making friends, I didn't want to make you uncomfortable. I'm not exactly someone, people want to be friends with.'

You furrowed your eyebrows, 'Tenya don't say that,' Your hand fell onto his shoulder, 'You're a wonderful person and people who don't see that are blatantly blind. I've never laughed so hard in my life, all because of you. I've experienced things and taken risks that I never thought I would have. Don't say that about yourself, please don't you dare have such thoughts.'

He stayed silent and nodded, 'Thank you, Y/n. I really mean it.'

You reached out your hand and rubbed small circles on his shoulder as a way to calm him.

'That reminds me, I was also captivated by your blue hair.' He says, changing the mood.

'My what?' Your eyes grew wide as your hands fell back into your lap and you glanced over to Tenya, who was wiping his glasses with the edge of his shirt.

'Your blue hair. When you dyed it last year. It was definitely a perplexing shade of blue,' He put his glasses back on and gave you a kind smile, 'It was certainly a noticeable shade of blue. It ever so slightly had a hint of turquoise. The colour complimented your skin tone, it was an alluring ultramarine blue that struck my attention.'

You stared at him silently.

'Oh sorry. I didn't mean to ramble on,' He said flustered as you, with no hesitation, hugged him and burrowed your head in the nook of his neck.

'Y/n?'

'It was just box dye you idiot,' You mumble in his neck as he gave you a short sweet laugh.
