The final days of summer drifted by in a blur of sunlit memories and lazy afternoons. Jasper stood on the terrace of the villa in Italy, overlooking the rolling hills of Tuscany, savouring the last of the holiday's peace. His family, along with Alessia's, had spent the last few weeks together exploring the vibrant cities, countryside vineyards, and golden beaches. It had been one of the best holidays of his life.

Jasper glanced over to where Alessia sat with her older brother on a sun lounger by the pool. He caught her eye and smiled. This summer had been more than just a break from school—it had changed something between them. He wasn't sure what yet, but they had spent so much time together that their friendship felt stronger, different, more... connected.

"So, what's next?" Alessia's father asked as they all gathered for their final dinner together, seated around the rustic wooden table under a canopy of twinkling lights.

"Back to reality, I suppose," Jasper's dad said with a chuckle, glancing at Jasper. "Last year of school now, son. Big year ahead."

"Yeah," Jasper replied, trying not to think too much about it. School had always been something he got through without much trouble, but this year felt heavier. Exams, expectations, pressure—it was all starting to close in. But he pushed those thoughts aside, determined to enjoy every last moment of this holiday.

"I'll miss this place," Alessia said softly, looking around at the view.

"Me too," Jasper agreed.

The conversation flowed around the table, with laughter and shared stories. It was the perfect way to end the trip. But the inevitable goodbyes came the next day as both families packed up and headed to the airport.

Back in England, the summer heat had given way to the cool edge of early September. The skies were often cloudy, and the excitement of the holidays was quickly fading as the school year loomed. On the morning of September 6th, Jasper found himself standing at the school gates with Casper, his twin brother, by his side.

"Feels weird, doesn't it?" Casper said, adjusting his backpack.

"Yeah," Jasper replied, glancing around at the familiar sight of their school. "Last year. Can't believe it."

They pushed through the crowd of students, making their way to the front of the school where they spotted their friends—Dylan, Tyler, and Myles—waiting by the bike racks.

"Jasper! Casper!" Dylan called out, waving them over. "How was Italy, mate?"

"It was sick," Jasper grinned. "Spent most of the time by the pool, or exploring with Alessia and her family."

"Exploring, huh?" Tyler raised an eyebrow, smirking. "Sounds romantic."

Jasper rolled his eyes, though a slight blush crept up his neck. "Shut up. What about you guys? What did you get up to?"

"Camping with my cousins," Myles said, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Ended up stuck in a tent for two days 'cause of the rain. Proper British summer."

"I just worked," Dylan groaned. "Had a job at my uncle's garage, fixing up cars. Made a bit of cash, though."

Tyler nodded. "Same here. Spent most of my summer working at my dad's shop."

The group exchanged more stories as they made their way into school, the buzz of conversation and laughter filling the halls. The familiar smell of school—old textbooks, floor polish, and faint traces of marker pens—settled around them like an unwanted blanket.

In form, their teacher, Mr. Tucker, was waiting for them, looking as unenthused about the new term as the students did.

"Morning, everyone. Quick announcement before we head into the day. Instead of the usual assembly in the main hall, Year 11 has a separate one in the sports hall. We've got some important stuff to cover about the GCSE mocks and the real exams later this year, so let's get moving."
