Jasper stayed on in America for a few more days, sharing time with Alessia in a blend of laughter, reflection, and easy comfort that felt both old and new. They explored the nearby campus, tried out little cafes, and even attended another Tar Heels game, where Jasper cheered her on from the bleachers. The days together were a soothing balm for the emotional chaos they'd both been through.
On their last day, they spent a quiet morning at a nearby park. Sitting side by side on a bench, Alessia sighed, looking out over the trees. "Feels strange, knowing we'll be heading home tomorrow," she murmured.
Jasper nodded, his fingers gently brushing hers on the bench between them. "Yeah. But it'll be good to get back, face everything together. The Russos will be at my house for Christmas, and I'd like to talk to your family... and Luca, especially."
She squeezed his hand. "Luca will listen, especially if you're sincere. He's just protective, but... I know he'll see that you care."
The next morning, they boarded the same flight back home, seated side by side in comfortable silence as the plane soared through clouds and miles. They talked about what awaited them in England and all the little plans they'd made for their future, their intertwined lives feeling more real with every passing moment.
As Jasper straightened a few things around the house in preparation, he felt a mix of nerves and anticipation. He knew this Christmas would be a big one — not only because Alessia and her family would be staying over, but also because he would finally get the chance to sit down and explain everything to her parents and Luca.
When the Russos arrived, their overnight bags in hand, Jasper was at the door first. He greeted them warmly, and though Luca's handshake was firm and just a bit guarded, the tension was manageable.
Carol, Alessia's mother, smiled warmly, pulling Jasper into a gentle hug. "It's good to see you again, Jasper," she said softly, her tone carrying an air of understanding.
"Good to see you too," he replied, grateful for her warmth.
They all gathered in the living room with hot drinks and comfortable chairs. Carol, Mario, Luca, Alessia, and Jasper took turns recounting their perspectives on the night of the party and the fallout that had followed. Jasper spoke openly, his gaze earnest and vulnerable.
"I never meant to hurt Alessia, and I didn't do what everyone thought. I'd never betray her like that," he said, his voice steady. "Gio was with me that night, and he knew what happened the whole time. I was as shocked as anyone when I found out what people were saying."
Luca studied him carefully, then nodded. "I'll admit I was furious," he said, his tone hard but honest. "When I saw the video, all I could think about was how much you meant to her and what that betrayal would've done. But hearing you out now, I can see... there was more to the story."
Casper spoke up, looking a bit sheepish. "I shouldn't have reacted the way I did. Pinning you to the wall... it was out of line. But I've known you for so long, and for a moment, it felt like... well, like you hadn't changed."
Jasper met his brother's gaze. "I understand, Casper. I think I would've reacted the same way if it had been someone hurting Alessia."
Mario, who had been quiet, leaned forward. "Jasper, we trusted you with our daughter. And after hearing you today, I think I can trust you again. Just promise us one thing."
Jasper nodded firmly, his gaze steady on Mario's. "I promise, I'll never hurt Alessia again. And I'll work every day to show her how much she means to me."
They all took a breath, letting the conversation settle into the room. Carol reached over, patting Jasper's hand, offering him a warm, understanding smile that spoke volumes.
