Chi Mei took Jiang Yang to a secret tree hole on the island that was connected to the sea. At this time, Jiang Yang's heartbeat was so weak that it almost stopped, and her face was as pale as a piece of white paper.

Chi Mei carefully touched Jiang Yang's pale face and whispered her name: "...A Yang?"

She was not responding.

In the quiet tree hole, there was only the cold and shattering sound of water droplets that falls on the rocks which continued to amplify and echo in the deathly quiet space, just like the panic and helplessness in his heart

He leaned down without a moment of hesitation, and his thick, wet black hair cascaded down his slender shoulders and covered the two tightly packed lips.

Merfolk's core entered into Jiang Yang's body and was slowly repairing the five internal organs crushed by the sea water.

Chi Mei lay next to Jiang Yang and held her hand tightly, guarding her for three days without a rest. Three days later, Jiang Yang's breathing and heartbeat returned to normal, and he dragged his weak body into the sea to search for food.

A merman without the merfolk's core will become a regular humanoid fish with no ability not even the most basic one like to see in the dark.

The storms on the sea continued, causing the sediment on the bottom of the sea to surge and become turbid. Chi Mei could only swim slowly bit by bit based on his past experience. A clown fish swam quickly past him. Chi Mei was startled for a moment, and then he realized , in addition to being unable to see in the dark, his reactions were also much slower than before.

While playing in the sea, Chi Mei unintentionally came across this island. The island was so rich in materials that not only did ships seldom visit this place, but merpeople also came here rarely.

When Chi Mei was still a small fish, he would frequently come here by himself. He would wander  and swim around the island, waiting for the coconut trees on the seaside to mature so he could occasionally catch a one to two coconuts to satisfy his craving and to pick up a few along the way. Before, his stomach was full of goldfish, but now he couldn't even can catch a clownfish these days. His eyelashes quivered, but his true concern was Jiang Yang's safety.

He used his fingers to pry a few oysters from the rocks, and then he gulped them down quickly, returning before he had a chance to chew them thoroughly.

The wind and waves were bigger than before. In the past, he could ride the wind and waves at will, but now he could only be pushed by the waves. His tail fin hit the reef, and a sea urchin with long spines and claws appeared on the reef and scratched his tail. He felt a dense wave of pain that was covered by the merfolk's core before. With a sigh, Chi Mei resumed her swim toward the tree hole.

Returning to the tree hole exhausted, Jiang Yang still lay quietly where she was. The pain in his tail fin disappeared instantly. Touching her warm hand, Chi Mei smiled softly: "You will wake up in a few days. That's great."

Jiang Yang's recovery speed was much faster than Chi Mei expected. He had just laid down on the rock to rest and recover from his injuries, and the sleeping Jiang Yang suddenly sat up, and her lively appearance made him feel at ease.

But he was not happy for a few seconds. Jiang Yang found him sleeping not far away. Instead of waking him up or touching him as gently as before, Jiang Yang turned around and left.

Chi Mei felt bitterness in his chest and stopped her. In order to keep her, he made up a lie that his tribemates was hunting her down.

Its wasn't a lie, after all. The mertribe hated humans so much that they basically killed all the crew members on the ship. He escaped with Jiang yang. The two elders' personalities indicated that they would undoubtedly look for their traces all throughout the ocean. Jiang Yang will share the same fate as the other crew members if  the found her.

How could he take Jiang Yang to escape once more if he could no longer possess the merfolk's core?

Fortunately, Jiang Yang believed what he said, and Chi Mei's resentment subsided somewhat as a result.

After all, Chi Mei wanted to get her some food because her body had just recovered. The golden fish he used to eat was good, with firm and tender meat, but it was a bit difficult for him to catch now.

After dragging his wounded tail, Chi Mei went into the water for an hour and eventually caught two. He came back happily. He thought he would get a compliment from her, but the empty tree hole gave him a wake-up call.

He searched frantically in the sea, but there was no trace of her in the vast and swaying ocean. Even if she swam, she shouldn't have been able to swim so fast. A bad premonition surged in Chi Mei's heart, and he sank to the bottom of the sea, surrounded by rocks and corals. Looking for Jiang Yang, eager to find her, but afraid of finding her sinking at the bottom of the reef.

Chi Mei struggled to shuttle among the dense rocks. The sharp rocks sliced open his fish tail and peeled it off, creating a long and terrifying wound.

He searched for her across the entire sea, but the fear is killing him.

Chi Mei returned to the tree hole exhausted, touched the spot where Jiang Yang once lay, and burst into tears as he cried bitterly.

Jiang Yang finished her meal, cleaned up briefly, and looked towards Merman.

After finishing the meal, the merman lazily lay down on the stone and fell asleep. However, based on the slightly quivering lashes on his eyelids, it appears that this man was simply having a nap.

Hmmm?

Jiang Yang was surprised to find that her eyesight had improved significantly after being washed by the sea. She could even see clearly the trembling eyelashes of the merman in the dim tree hole from such a distance. It was true that those who survived a disaster would have a good fortune in the future.

Jiang Yang leaned against the stone wall. She looked at the merman and asked: "...Why did you save me?"

Chi Mei's thin eyelids were raised, and the wounds and flesh without scale protection were soaked in the seawater. He felt as though he was being pricked by thousands of needles. Chi Mei endured the pain and said dully: "No reason."
