"You could've gotten suspended, Katerina. What were you thinking?" I fumed.
"I was just protecting you. I don't care if I would've gotten suspended," she argued.
We were on our way home after some time spent in the principal's office. I was a little ticked off at the stunt Katerina had pulled. Me being angry at her behavior made her angry at me.
She'd nearly gotten into a full-blown fight with Amber because she was messing with me again.
~45 Minutes Earlier~
The final bell of the day rang, and students hurriedly rushed out of their classes so they could head home. Katerina and I were some of the last people to exit the classroom.
I had been in a somber mood all day and the others had picked up on it. Having received that letter from my ex had been sort of a turning point. She was transferring here, and she already knew where I lived. There was no way I was going to be able to avoid her.
Katerina seemed to be the most worried. In chemistry, we had a partner activity to do, and she paired up with me. While we were working, she'd asked me if everything was okay. I couldn't lie to her, so I told her no and that I didn't want to talk about it. She was nice enough not to pry and I appreciated that.
I knew that having your ex come back into your life wasn't anything major. People were dealing with worst problems than mine. Think about it. You're trying to move on and be happy and then suddenly someone tries to come back into your life and mess it up. I thought me leaving America meant I was leaving my past behind. Clearly, I was wrong.
"Do you think you could help me with the chemistry homework? I barely understood the lesson today," I said as we walked through the halls.
"Sure," she replied. "It'll have to be a little later, though. I have some errands to run for my mom and then work straight after. I don't get off until eight."
"That's okay. I'll just do the other homework assignments until then."
"Sounds good. I'll come over to your house. Is that okay?"
I winced internally. "Yeah. It's totally fine." It totally wasn't, but that was a conversation for a different day.
"Alright. I'll see you later then, yeah?" she said.
"Yeah. See you later," I replied.
I headed off to my locker while she went to hers. I ran into Hayden along the way, and we chatted for a bit before parting ways. I reached my locker and put in my combination. I opened it up just to have it slammed shut. I looked over and see Amber with a smirk on her face, her hand resting on my closed locker.
Irritated, I asked, "What do you want?" I wasn't in the mood for her crap right now.
"I noticed you and the dog are pretty close now," she started. "You're just trying to get in her pants, right?"
I felt instant white, hot anger at her words. "Why the hell would you even think that?"
"A little birdie told me you were a dyke. I mean, I don't blame you for wanting to get into her pants. She isn't ugly, but I wouldn't wanna get tangled with a monster like her, plus I don't swing that way."
I gritted my teeth. I hated that word. It was fucking degrading. "Don't call me that."
"Aw, were you offended?" she asked with mock concern.
"Why don't you just fuck off and stay the hell away from me," I told her as I attempted to open my locker again.
Amber pushed me and I stumbled a bit. "We're not done talking."
