Chapter Three : Control

Location : S.H.I.E.L.D Academy

Robbie sat in his dimly lit room, the glow from his laptop casting an ethereal light on his focused expression. He was deeply engrossed in his research on dark matter manipulation, a subject that had captivated his prodigious intellect for years. Behind his ear, a calm and reassuring voice spoke, "Robbie, I've accessed the latest research papers on dark matter. Would you like me to summarize the key findings?"

This voice belonged to ARTEMIS, the AI assistant Robbie had ingeniously created when he was just five years old. ARTEMIS was no ordinary AI; she had access to all the world's information, from the most cutting-edge scientific journals to ancient, esoteric texts. She could process data at an astonishing speed, providing Robbie with real-time updates and solutions to the most complex problems.

Robbie's research delved into the enigmatic nature of dark matter and its potential applications in science and technology. He was particularly intrigued by the possibility of manipulating dark matter to unlock new forms of energy and even create advanced materials with unprecedented properties. "Yes, please," Robbie replied, his fingers dancing over the keyboard as he inputted intricate equations. ARTEMIS continued, "Recent advancements suggest novel methods for detecting and manipulating dark matter through quantum field theories. These methods involve utilizing high-energy particle collisions to elucidate dark matter interactions."

Robbie's eyes sparkled with intellectual fervor. "If we can harness dark matter, we could revolutionize energy storage and transmission," he mused, contemplating the profound implications. ARTEMIS added, "Indeed, Robbie. There is also potential for groundbreaking advancements in propulsion systems and medical technologies.". Together, they continued their work, pushing the boundaries of human knowledge and venturing into the uncharted territories of the universe.

Just then, Olivia appeared at the doorway, her voice breaking through the intense concentration. "Robbie, if we don't head to the training facilities now, we'll be late," she said, urgency in her tone. Robbie glanced at the clock, realizing she was right. With a nod, Robbie reluctantly closed his laptop, knowing that the mysteries of dark matter would have to wait for another time. He grabbed his bag and joined Olivia, who was waiting by the door. As they walked together toward the training facilities, the cool evening air filled with the sounds of the bustling campus around them.

They walked in silence for a few moments, the only sounds being their footsteps and the distant chatter of other students. Olivia finally broke the silence, her voice a bit hesitant. "Robbie, I've been thinking... how would you describe what we are?" She looked at him, her eyes searching for understanding.

Robbie felt a slight nervousness creep in. He wasn't used to talking about his feelings, especially with someone as important to him as Olivia. "Well, uh," he began, scratching the back of his head, "I guess it's safe to say we're more than just friends." He glanced at her, gauging her reaction. "We've been spending so much time together, and honestly, I can't imagine my life without you."

Olivia's face softened, and she gave him a reassuring smile. "I feel the same way. You've become such an important part of my life, Robbie. It's like we just click, you know?" She gently squeezed his hand, her touch warm and comforting.

Robbie felt a surge of relief and warmth at her words. "Yeah, it really does feel like that. I guess... we're partners in all this craziness," he replied, looking into her eyes. The awkwardness melted away, replaced by a deeper connection. As they approached the training facilities, Robbie felt a profound sense of contentment.

Just then, they were interrupted by the sound of footsteps approaching quickly. Andrew, along with his father, Grant Ward, who had helped train Robbie, came into view. "Robbie! Olivia!" Andrew called out, his voice filled with urgency. "Everyone's here already—all the higher SHIELD agents, including Director Coulson and his old team. Even President Hansen is here."
