Bridget

Two weeks later

It had been two whole weeks since my kiss with that certain pirate—I couldn't even bring myself to say his name. Just the thought sent a rush of mixed emotions through me. To say the least, we still hadn’t talked about the kiss, and I wasn’t planning to either.

We were doing our best to avoid each other, which was easier said than done, especially with Uliana’s relentless bullying. It didn’t help that she was part of his crew, along with Morgie, Hades, and Maleficent. Sometimes I wondered why Uliana was the leader; maybe it was her fierce attitude or her knack for intimidation. But honestly, that was the least of my worries right now.

I was currently in the kitchens with Ella and Fay after a long day. Seriously, why was alchemy so difficult? I couldn’t wrap my head around it.

Whatever. We were experimenting with one of my new cookbooks, trying to whip up some cookies—just normal ones. I had no intention of giving Uliana more ammunition for her bullying. The best part about being with my friends was the chatter that kept my mind off that certain pirate until, of course, fate decided to intervene.

“So, who are you guys going to castlecoming with?” Fay asked, her hands busy mixing ingredients for whipped cream. I watched as she concentrated, her brow furrowed. Ella’s cheeks flushed a light pink as she replied, “I accepted Charming as my date.” I couldn’t help but smile softly. Ella had taken my advice, and Charming really did seem, well… charming.

“Anyways, I’ve been noticing a certain fairy sneaking glances at a certain serpentine,” Ella teased, leaning across the counter with a knowing grin. “What’s that about, Fay?”

Fay’s face turned crimson, and she faltered, trying to brush it off. “It’s just a few glances, nothing special!”

Ella raised an eyebrow, clearly not buying it. “Oh, come on! You can’t tell me you’re not at least a little curious about Morgie. The way he looks at you, it’s like he’s got stars in his eyes!”

I chuckled, finding joy in our lighthearted banter. “You two should just confess already. It’s painfully obvious.”

Fay crossed her arms, trying to appear nonchalant but failing miserably. “It’s not that simple!” she protested, but I could see the hint of a smile tugging at her lips.

“What about you, Bridget?” Ella suddenly turned her attention to me. “Any secret crushes we should know about?”

I hesitated, heat rising to my cheeks. “Me? No, not really. Just… busy with everything.”

“Oh please, you can’t tell me you haven’t thought about someone,” Ella pressed, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

I forced a laugh, trying to deflect the attention. “Honestly, I’m just trying to keep my head above water with alchemy and Uliana.”

But deep down, the thought of that pirate lingered, nagging at the edges of my mind. For now, I would hide behind my friends and our cookies, pretending that everything was normal—even if it wasn’t.

As we continued baking, I noticed Ella and Fay exchanging glances, their playful banter fading into an uneasy silence. “Bridget,” Ella said softly, her voice laced with concern, “you’ve been awfully quiet. Is something bothering you?”

Fay nodded in agreement, leaning in closer. I tried to brush it off with a smile, but the weight of their gazes felt too heavy. “I’m fine,” I insisted, but my heart raced as I avoided their eyes.

“No, you’re not,” Fay pressed gently. “We can tell something’s up. Just tell us, please.” The walls I had built around my feelings began to crack under their concern, and before I knew it, I blurted out, “It’s about Hook. We… we kissed.”

The words hung in the air, and their shocked expressions encouraged me to keep going. “I don’t know what it means, and I don’t want to think about it, but it’s been eating at me.”

Ella’s eyes widened, and Fay gasped, their surprise palpable. “You kissed Hook? As in Captain Hook?” Ella exclaimed, her voice barely above a whisper.

“What was it like? Tell us everything!” Fay leaned in, her curiosity piqued. “Did he, like, sweep you off your feet? Was it romantic?” I could see their excitement building, and suddenly I felt exposed, my cheeks flushing. “It was… unexpected,” I admitted, glancing down at the flour-covered counter.

“We were just caught up in the moment, and then it happened. But now I can’t stop thinking about it, and I don’t know if it was just a mistake.” The two of them exchanged glances, clearly eager for more details, and I realized I’d opened a floodgate. They wouldn’t let me off the hook easily.

Feeling overwhelmed by their eager questions and the weight of my confession, I forced a smile and said, “I should probably check on the cookies before they burn.” Ella and Fay exchanged disappointed looks, but I could see their excitement bubbling beneath the surface.

“Yeah, I’ll be right back!” I added hastily, stepping away from the kitchen. As I made my way back to my dorm, the laughter and chatter of my friends faded behind me, replaced by the echo of my own thoughts.

I knew I couldn’t avoid Hook forever; the kiss had changed everything, and the tension between us hung in the air like an unspoken promise.

I took a deep breath, steeling myself for what lay ahead, knowing that eventually, I would have to confront the feelings I had tried so hard to ignore.
