4. You are my Captain

Standing outside of Shanks office, my heart was racing. I lift my hand up to knock but before I did, I stopped. Why am I such a coward? Y/n snap out of it. Be brave and face this conversation.... No I need some water. I'll come back after I have a drink. Just as I was about to walk back to my room, the office door opened and there he was, my captain, standing in the doorway with his hand on top of the frame. Damn he looked good.

'Not trying to run away again are you y/n?' he said with a playful smile.

I was blushing, this man looked so handsome right now that it should be illegal.

'No, I just realised I needed some water' I replied.

'I have some in here. Come in' then he moved out of the door way and gave me some space to walk through.

His office was quite neat surprisingly. Usually there were maps and papers all over his desk but today it was tidy. It smelt like old books with a hint of rum, two scents I really loved. Two scents that felt like home.

Shanks grabbed a glass and filled it with water then handed it to me. He then leant back on the front of his desk and looked at me. I stood in front of him. My heart hadn't settled and I was super anxious. From what I remembered last night, he wasn't upset or angry, he didn't tell me he didn't want the baby or anything that I thought he was going to say so I had no idea how this conversation would go.

Shanks and I looked each other in the eyes intently, it felt like his gaze was piercing through me then he spoke.

'I'm going to be honest y/n. You are right. What you said last night about being pregnant as a pirate is true. It will be dangerous, we are looking for one of the most dangerous pirates and coming into contact with the Marines all the time'.

I looked down.

'But... you have me and the guys to protect you. I know you don't want to be considered a burden and let me reassure you that you won't be. No one will harm you or our baby as long as I'm breathing. Besides, you're not exactly one to back down from a fight.' Shanks said all this with such conviction in his eyes and I knew he meant it. It made me feel safe. But my fears were still suffocating me and I wanted to set some ground rules. We weren't a couple, he was my captain. I didn't want that to change. We'd only slept together once. Yes, I was carrying his child but I was still a crew member. I still had so much study to do with Hongo and I didn't want to complicate any of it. I didn't want my emotions to take over as much as they already were. So this all made me come to the one conclusion that I knew would distance myself from any further heartbreak that could potentially happen.

'I, I believe every word you say Shanks. I know you'd never let anything harm me or our baby. You're my captain and I stand by everything you say...' I paused after saying this. Shanks had a small smile on his face.

'...but I don't want to complicate our situation any further. It's best if we don't further any relationship outside of that fact. I'm glad you want to be a father to our child. It makes me so happy but.. but that's all I can give you. You are the father of my child and my captain'. I looked him straight in the eyes saying this. I hoped that he understood where I was coming from. The best way to avoid any more emotions was by sticking to his.

Shanks closed his eyes and let out a small sigh. He then opened them and said 'Okay y/n. I understand. But I want you to know that I'm here for you and if you need anything, please tell me and don't keep it to yourself.'

'Okay, I promise' I smiled back.

'We're going to be at sea for around 10 weeks, make sure you and Hongo grab everything you need today because we're leaving tomorrow morning. Tell Lucky to grab foods you are able to eat so you don't starve the whole time' Shanks spoke hopping off his desk and walking over to pour himself a glass of whiskey.

'Will do. I'll get going now' I replied as I turned around to walk out of his office. But I stopped and gave him one last look.

'Thank you for wanting to be apart of this. It means a lot'. And with that, I walked out of the office.
