Min Yoonji tugged nervously at the hem of her skirt, trying to smooth out the wrinkles that seemed to appear no matter how much effort she put into looking presentable. The buzzing energy of the office was in full swing, people hurrying back and forth, their conversations a backdrop of hushed tones and clicking heels. She sighed, glancing at the sleek glass doors across the room—Jeon Jungkook's office. The man behind those doors was practically a legend within the company, though not necessarily for the reasons Yoonji admired him. Jeon Jungkook, the youngest CEO in the company's history, was known for his ruthless efficiency and cold demeanor. No one dared cross him. No one, Yoonji suspected, even dared to approach him unless they absolutely had to.
But Yoonji wasn't like everyone else. Despite his harsh exterior, there was something about Jungkook that fascinated her, drawing her in like a moth to a flame. It wasn't just his striking looks, though those didn't hurt. It was the way he carried himself, confident and untouchable, as though the world was his to control. And maybe it was. His black tailored suit seemed to be part of his very skin, the dark fabric clinging to the sharp lines of his body. Even his presence was intimidating—everything about him screamed perfection, and it made Yoonji's heart race every time she saw him.
Not that he ever paid attention to her. To Jeon Jungkook, she was just another employee—a name on a spreadsheet, an email in his inbox. She could be standing two feet away from him and he wouldn't so much as blink in her direction.
"Yoonji!" A voice startled her out of her thoughts. "The files for Mr. Jeon's meeting. Do you have them?"
Yoonji looked up, seeing her coworker, Jisoo, waving a manila folder in her direction. "Oh, right!" Yoonji grabbed the documents from her desk and practically ran to Jisoo.
Jisoo raised an eyebrow, noticing Yoonji's flushed face. "Thinking about him again, aren't you?" she teased with a grin.
Yoonji quickly glanced around, panic flickering in her eyes. "Shh, Jisoo! Someone might hear you!"
"Relax, everyone has a crush on Jeon Jungkook. It's practically company policy." Jisoo shrugged, but her voice dropped to a whisper. "Though why you'd want to catch the attention of someone like *him* is beyond me. The guy's a total iceberg."
Yoonji bit her lip, turning to look at his office again. "He's not that bad..." she murmured.
Jisoo snorted. "Okay, sure. Have you ever tried talking to him?"
Yoonji didn't answer. The truth was, she had—well, sort of. There were brief moments, interactions so fleeting they barely counted, where their paths crossed. But whenever they did, it was like hitting a wall of ice. Jungkook's eyes would barely skim over her, his words clipped and distant. It didn't help that she seemed to lose all sense of coordination whenever he was near. Her first week at the company, she had spilled coffee on his shoes. His shoes. And he hadn't even looked angry, just... bored.
She shook off the memory and handed Jisoo the documents. "I'll deliver these to his office."
"Good luck," Jisoo smirked, nudging her playfully. "Maybe this will be the day he finally notices you."
Yoonji rolled her eyes but couldn't help the flutter of nervous excitement in her chest as she made her way to the glass doors. Her heart pounded in her chest as she raised her hand to knock, hesitating for just a second before her knuckles rapped softly on the glass.
"Come in."
His voice was deep, smooth, and filled the room like a command. Yoonji's pulse quickened as she opened the door. There he was—Jeon Jungkook, sitting behind his expansive desk, his dark eyes fixed on the laptop screen in front of him. He didn't even glance up as she entered.
"Mr. Jeon, I have the files you requested for the meeting," she said, her voice small and unsure. She stepped forward, placing the folder on his desk.
For a moment, there was silence. Jungkook's eyes finally lifted from his screen, cool and calculating as they landed on the folder. Then, slowly, his gaze shifted to her.
"You're late."
His words were like ice water splashing over her. Yoonji blinked, caught off guard. "I—I'm sorry, sir, I didn't mean to—"
"Save it," he cut her off, his tone sharp. "Next time, I expect you to be on time, Miss Min."
Yoonji swallowed hard, feeling her face flush with embarrassment. "Yes, of course, sir. I apologize."
He didn't respond. His attention had already returned to his laptop, as though she were nothing more than an afterthought, dismissed as quickly as she had entered. Yoonji stood there for a moment, unsure of what to do. Then, with her heart sinking in her chest, she turned and left the office, closing the door softly behind her.
As she walked back to her desk, she couldn't help but feel foolish. Why did she even bother? Jeon Jungkook was out of her league, unattainable in every way. And yet, no matter how cold he was, her heart still fluttered at the thought of him.
Maybe Jisoo was right. Maybe it was time to move on. But even as she told herself that, Yoonji knew one thing for sure.
She wasn't going to stop hoping—not yet.
