Saturday morning dawned bright and clear, the sunlight streaming through Yoonji's window. She had planned every detail of her outfit for the business party, wanting to make a lasting impression. As she stood before her mirror, she carefully applied her makeup, aiming for a polished yet approachable look.Dressed in a stunning navy dress that accentuated her figure and paired with elegant heels, Yoonji felt a wave of confidence wash over her. The anticipation of the evening made her heart race—this was a chance not just to support Jungkook, but to deepen their connection.
As the clock inched closer to the designated pickup time, she paced her living room, checking her phone for any messages. Just then, a sleek black car pulled up outside her apartment building. Yoonji rushed to the window, her breath catching at the sight of Jungkook stepping out, looking impeccable in a tailored suit.
When she opened the door, Jungkook smiled, his eyes lighting up at the sight of her. "You look incredible," he said, genuine admiration in his voice.
"Thank you! You clean up well yourself," she replied, blushing slightly.
He offered her his arm as they walked to the car. "Shall we?"
Yoonji nodded, excitement bubbling within her as they got into the luxurious vehicle. The interior was plush, the soft leather seats and ambient lighting making her feel special. As they drove through the city, Jungkook shared stories about the company's history and some of the people they would meet at the party.
"Remember to network and enjoy yourself," he reminded her. "This is as much about you as it is about me."
"I will," Yoonji promised, her heart swelling with gratitude. "Thanks for including me."
When they arrived at the venue, Yoonji's breath was taken away by the grandeur of the hotel. The entrance was adorned with flowers, and elegant guests were milling about, dressed to the nines. Jungkook opened her door, and she stepped out, feeling like she was in a dream.
As they made their way inside, Yoonji felt a mixture of nerves and excitement. The atmosphere was buzzing with laughter and conversation, and she couldn't help but feel proud to be by Jungkook's side.
They mingled for a while, and Yoonji found herself engaging with colleagues, feeling more at ease with each passing moment. Jungkook introduced her to several important figures in the industry, and she enjoyed seeing him in his element, confident and charismatic.
Just when the evening seemed to be going perfectly, everything changed. Yoonji was laughing at a joke Jungkook had made when she noticed a woman approaching them from across the room. Her heart sank as she recognized her: it was Jungkook's ex-girlfriend, Soojin.
Soojin exuded confidence, her presence commanding attention as she made her way toward them. Dressed in a striking red dress that seemed to set her apart, she radiated a sense of authority that instantly made Yoonji uncomfortable.
"Jungkook," Soojin said, her voice dripping with sweetness that contrasted with the tension in the air. "I didn't expect to see you here."
Yoonji could feel Jungkook tense beside her, his expression hardening as he turned to face her. "Soojin," he replied coolly, "this is Yoonji, my colleague."
Soojin's eyes swept over Yoonji, a condescending smile playing on her lips. "Oh, how nice. Are you enjoying the party?"
"Very much, thank you," Yoonji replied, trying to keep her composure. She could feel the weight of the situation pressing down on her.
"Good to know Jungkook is keeping busy," Soojin said, her tone laced with sarcasm. "It must be nice to have someone to look after him."
Jungkook's jaw tightened, and Yoonji could sense his irritation. "I don't need anyone to look after me, Soojin. We're here to enjoy the evening, not to revisit the past."
Soojin scoffed, crossing her arms. "Oh, come on, Jungkook. We both know you have a type. This is just a distraction, isn't it?"
Yoonji felt her heart race, a mix of anger and embarrassment surging within her. She met Jungkook's gaze, hoping for reassurance, but he seemed focused on keeping his composure.
"This isn't the time or place for this conversation," he replied, his voice low and firm.
Soojin smirked, undeterred. "I just hope she knows what she's getting into." With that, she turned on her heel, disappearing into the crowd.
Yoonji stood frozen, her mind racing. The tension had shifted, and she could feel the remnants of Soojin's words hanging heavily in the air.
"Are you okay?" Jungkook asked softly, his gaze searching hers.
"I... I'm fine," she said, though uncertainty gnawed at her. "But who was that?"
Jungkook sighed, his expression shifting from irritation to concern. "Someone from my past. I didn't expect her to show up here."
Yoonji forced a smile, but inside, her thoughts spiraled. What had she just witnessed? And what did it mean for her and Jungkook?
As they moved to the side of the room, Yoonji felt the weight of Soojin's presence lingering, casting a shadow over what had started as a perfect evening. The air between them felt charged, and she wondered if the path ahead would be as smooth as she had hoped.
