I woke up squinting because the sun was basically blinding me through the window. I sat up, rubbed my eyes, and looked around at my nearly empty room. All that was left were a few boxes and my bed. Last night was my last stay here i guess, since my mom's moving us to go live with her fiancé and his son. I've met her fiancé, Amarian, or "Mar" as he likes to be called or whatever. He's cool i guess, and I think he's good for my mom. But I've never met his son—he's always been "MIA" when I came around. I don't even know what he looks like, just that he's 19, and my mom keeps saying he's "nice."

Moving wasn't gonna be too hard to adjust to, but we were leaving California and heading alllll the way to fucking Atlanta. The only cool side was that my favorite cousin moved to Atlanta a few years ago, so at least I'd be closer to her.

"Nainai! Get dressed, it's time to leave girl!" my mom shouted from the living room.

"mmcht ight!" I yelled back, digging through a box of clothes. I pulled out a black romper and slipped into my Fendi slides, then grabbed my phone, charger, and some otha shit i thought i would need.

I walked into the empty living room and saw my mom and Mar loading some things into the truck to make things easier for the movers.

"You ready to leave nai?" my mom asked, adjusting her fluffy hair.

"sureee" I mumbled, taking a bite out of a honeybun I had in my bag.

"You say your goodbyes?"

"Girl who ima say goodbye too" I said, rolling my eyes.

" Girl don't roll them damn eyes at me before i hit u and make u blind, now you've got a fresh start. Maybe Nardo can introduce you to some new people."

I cringed when she said his name "Uh, yeah, maybe," I said sarcastically.

I didn't have any real friends left in Cali. Most of them bald headed bitches bailed on me after my ex and I split. It was weird, so I've just been keeping to myself ever since. I didn't even bother telling anyone we were moving.

"How you feeling, Nya?" Mar asked as he got in the car.

"I don't know, just ready to get there and get this over with i guess" I shrugged.

"I think you'll like it. You and Kasir will both be upstairs, but don't worry—he won't bother you much, that nigga barley come out his room" Mar said chuckling .

I raised an eyebrow. "Kasir?" My mom never mentioned anyone by that name.

"Yeah, my son. He likes to go by Nardo, though," Mar chuckled.

"Oh, right. I'm sure I'll like it."

He smiled and nodded. "I'll go help your mom finish loading so we can get on the road," he said before heading back to the house to grab things.

I sighed. This was gonna be interesting. I climbed into the truck and shut the door, waiting for the movers to finish so we could finally get going.
