I woke up to the sound of singing. I first thought it was music playing, but then the voice faltered, not normally a thing that happens in production. The voice started singing the song Drop in the Ocean by Ron Pope.
A drop in the ocean,
A change in the weather,
I was praying that you and me might end up together,
It's like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert,
But I'm holding you closer than most,
Cause you are my Heaven.
“Haz?”
The singing stopped.
“Yeah?”
“Was that you singing?”
“Yeah.”
“Will you keep singing?”
He didn't respond. Instead he switched song and started singing Demons by Imagine Dragons.
When the days are cold and the card all fold,
And the saints we see are all made of gold,
When your dreams all fail,
And the ones we hail are the worse of all
And the bloods run stale.
I wanna hide the truth,
I want to shelter you,
But with the beast inside, there's no where we can hide,
No matter what we breed, we still are made of greed,
This is my kingdom come,
This is my kingdom come.
I drifted back to sleep as he continued to sing.
I was walking through a pasture. I had a baby in my arms. She was crying loudly and tears were falling freely down her cheeks. It wiped them away with my thumb, careful not to hurt her.
“Shh, it's okay. There's no need to cry.”
I sat in the grass and rocker her back and forth.
“Where did you come from?”
I kept rocking her, trying to lessen her cries. Eventually, she started to calm down.
Suddenly the ground started shaking. The sky changed from blue to grey. Lightening cracked in the darkness and illuminated the baby's face. It wasn't a baby's face, it was the face of my mother.
“Teddy is coming. You can't hide from him. He's going to find you.”
I set her down in the grass and slowly crept backwards. I bumped into something solid. I turned around quickly and saw Haz hanging from a rope. His chest wasn't rising and falling like it should have been and his eyes were rolled back into his head.
“Beautiful, isn't it?”
I turned to see Teddy walked towards me.
“Watching the blood drip out of his mouth and onto his shirt, making a pattern. Let me get you home.”
I shook my head, refusing his touch. He raised his hand to smack me. I screamed. I screamed and I tried to run, but I wasn't fast enough. Teddy grabbed my arm and shook me. By now, tears were falling and I was screaming.
