I sat, staring blearily at a computer in front of me, tired from too little sleep, mindlessly watching the Glade being constructed by some of the workers.
I twirled my hair around my fingers. It nearly reached my belly button I was so happy it had finally started growing faster. Kids were laughing and milling about, closing off their computers and cleaning up their workspaces. They were all crowding in small groups to get to the lunch room.
A hand gripped my shoulder and shook me slightly. I jolted out of my daze and stared at the older woman above me, her blonde hair in a bun so tight it pinched her face together. She looked at me slightly annoyed.
"You really need to get back to your desk Ca-"
She started saying the last word, mouthing it, when the scene changed.
I was shorter, and instead of sitting inside, I was on a road, with my hair in a ponytail. A weird creature held me by the scruff of my shirt, and I kicked and screamed, trying to wiggle free of its grip. It held up a knife, grinning manically. It was still mouthing the same thing pinch-face woman said.
I heard someone run up behind me, before stopping abruptly, letting out a small yelp. The creature above me startled and dropped me down to the ground. I tried to scramble up and run away, but it quickly regained its wits and pounced onto me. This time, it was more sloppy, leaving some points open, and I went to punch it straight in its ugly, decaying nose. Suddenly, everything started moving slower, and it felt like my arm was moving through honey. Right before my fist connected with the face of the creature, the person behind me screamed something at me. The same thing pinch-face had called me. Only this time, I heard it.
I jolted awake, my fist connecting with someones face, sending them flailing backwards, and me tumbling out of my hammock. A guy was letting out an angry string of words - the person I had accidentally attacked - Minho. He held his cheek, glaring at me.
I smiled at him, forgetting everything. I felt joy bubbling up inside of me. I had remembered.
"I remember", I tell him like a complete idiot, grinning like a fool.
He looked at me strangely. I don't know if he was irritated or intrigued. Probably both.
"Remember what. The English alphabet?"
"My name."
His face had multiple emotions. He was both excited and irritated. He gestured with his hand impatiently, fighting a grin that was slowly spreading over his mouth.
"So?"
"Cassidy. My name is Cassidy." I tasted the word out in my mouth, rolling it over my tongue. I liked it. I finally had a name again. After like a million years.
I put out my hand, waiting for him to grip my hand. As soon as he did so, I proudly said: "Hello there. I'm Cassidy."
Minho finally gave into the grin and shook my hand.
"Well, it's nice to meet you Cassidy. I'm Minho."
His expression fell, and he death glared me.
"Now apologise."
He pointed to his cheek. I stopped grinning immediately. It was slightly red from what I could tell in the darkness. A little too dark. Why would he wake me up this early?
"No." He just ruined my moment. I was so not going to apologise to him.
"Excuse me?!" He asked, very much offended.
