Chapter 1 - Surprises

Sesimo woke up with a throbbing head. The silence in the laboratory was unusual and disturbing. He got up slowly, feeling the discomfort in his body, and realized that all the lights and machines had been turned off. His robots, which would normally resist even a forced shutdown, were completely inert.

"Impossible..." he muttered, rubbing his eyes as he tried to take in the situation. He walked through the laboratory, each step echoing on the metal floor. Nothing seemed to be working.

He reached the generator, the core of his creation, still emitting a subtle pulsating light. An irregular sound reverberated throughout the structure. It was clear that it was unstable, far beyond tolerable. Sesimo approached the diagnostic screen, observing the readings with an attentive eye.

"Two pieces missing," he said with contempt. "Probably ejected at the moment of teleportation. I knew those low-quality parts would cause me problems." He sighed, annoyed. There was no time to worry about the details of how it happened. The fact was that the generator, without the parts, was on the verge of collapse. If it wasn't fixed... He knew full well what would happen.

Sesimo clenched his fists and took a deep breath. He felt the nano-robots in his blood slowly starting to work again, after a pause he hadn't expected. A slight tingling spread through his muscles as the nanobots reactivated. The sensation was familiar, but still irritating. He flexed his fingers, noticing that his strength was gradually increasing.

"Finally... I won't have to rely solely on my biological apparatus," he commented, a slight smile appearing on his face. "If the nanobots are coming back, everything will soon be in full working order. And besides... I don't have to rely on machines alone to save the world."

Sesimo looked around. The laboratory window was ajar, and the soft light of a strange environment penetrated through the crack. He walked to the exit, opened a door and was faced with a scene that was totally different from what should have been the landscape outside his facility. He was in the middle of a forest.

"Perfect," he grumbled. "This... isn't my working environment." His eyes scanned the surrounding area, looking for any sign of the missing pieces. "But anyway, I'm not the one who's going to have to adapt to this place."

He strode out of the lab with confidence, ignoring the unfamiliar and inhospitable terrain around him. The trees weren't that big but the air was heavy and humid, yet Sesimo walked as if nothing there was a real obstacle. For him, this forest was just another inconvenient detail.

"If the parts were ejected in the explosion, they must be out there, lost. Their inferior quality wouldn't support complete teleportation," he said quietly as he walked, talking to himself. "It doesn't matter. I'll get them back before anything else goes wrong."

Little by little, the tingling of the nanobots in his body became weaker. He felt his vigor growing, his senses sharpening, his speed and strength returning to superhuman levels.

"Now I'm back to normal," he muttered, a touch of pride in his voice. "There's nothing here that can stop me."

He was about to formulate a plan to deal with the situation when, suddenly, a soft humming interrupted his thoughts. A sound almost imperceptible to human ears resounded in the forest, and Sesimo turned, confused, in the direction of the noise.

From between the trees, a sphere of floating darkness approached, moving with an unsettling grace. Sesimo watched, puzzled, not knowing what to think. What was that?

The sphere moved closer, until, in an instant, the darkness fell away, revealing a blonde child. Her eyes shone with an intense color, and her expression was as innocent as it was disturbing.
