You wake to a strange sensation, the warmth that wraps around you both unfamiliar and oddly comforting. You want to stay cradled like this forever.
Except, you don't ever remember feeling this warm.
Feeling disoriented, your mind was slow to catch up with the sensations. Faint mumbles drift through the haze of exhaustion, voices blending into a soft murmur that you can't quite make out, you don't even know where they are coming from. You struggle to focus, but your strength is sapped, and your body remains heavy and unresponsive.
Slowly, the numbness started to disappear, blood ran through your veins gently and you could finally wiggle your fingers slightly.
As you fight through the fog in your mind, you slowly become aware of the surroundings. When you manage to open your eyes, everything is a blur—a swirl of indistinct shapes and colors.
The dim light that filters in casts shifting shadows across your vision. Above you, a golden seal floats, its ethereal glow shimmering softly in the air. It moves with a graceful, almost hypnotic rhythm, tracing intricate patterns around your body.
Where am I? What is this?
A sense of unease settles over you as you try to make sense of what's happening. You attempt to move, but the realization that you're restrained hits you.
Heavy chains are wrapped around your limbs, their cold metal biting into your skin. They are not just ordinary chains; they hum with elemental energy, their surface etched with intricate symbols that pulse with a faint, golden light.
Elemental energy?
"She's awake." You managed to decipher what you just heard, your hearing is slowly recovering.
You squint your eyes, trying to figure out the shapes that are becoming larger and larger. Then you realise, those aren't shapes but people approaching you. Two male figures. One with brown hair and one with teal.
"Nivatus... Nivatus..." a farmiliar voice called out to you, deep and resonant, carrying a calm yet commanding presence. It has a richness to it, each word spoken with a measured cadence that reflects a profound sense of wisdom and authority.
You wanted to respond, but your throat remained dry, nothing came out when you tried.
"She is conscious, I shall begin." The figure in brown—raised his arm, and the elemental power around you flared brighter. The intense golden glow of the seal began to pulse and sear, magnifying the pain that shot through your head and spread through your entire body. It was as though the very air was alive with torment.
"Rex Lapis, s-she— we should stop—- She's not r-" The other figure spoke, his voice trembling with concern and desperation. As he approached, you could clearly see his features—he was the adeptus who had knocked you out when you broke free from the ice. His face was etched with relief and a deep, heartfelt worry.
It was the name "Rex Lapis" that concerned you. This was your punishment for breaking his contract, for running off to Khaenri'ah, and in no way are you prepared.
Despite the pleas, Rex Lapis remained resolute. The elemental power around you continued to pulse, and the pain intensified, leaving you desperate for reprieve. You turned your gaze toward the figure who was so fervently trying to intervene, seeing his hands pressed against the barrier with visible effort.
Through the haze of your suffering, you managed to whisper, "Please..."
The plea was barely audible, but the unknown adeptus' eyes widened with a mixture of hope and distress. His desperate attempts to reach you were clear, yet you didn't understand his true intentions.
