"Love?" You repeated with disbelief. "That's a human emotion, we don't experience that."
You knew what this "love" feeling was, you read about it, you watched plays about it. However, despite having more knowledge about it than the other Yakshas, you find yourself unable to understand it fully.
Xiao's eyes softened with uncertainty. "I know it's a human emotion. But... I feel it."
You shook your head, pulling back, slightly but not entirely from his hold. "While you fought alongside the other Yakshas, I spent my free time reading and observing humans. I've seen love. I've seen how humans act when they are in love. I don't think we are capable of that, Xiao. Are you sure you love me?"
A brief silence fell between you as the sound of the rain on the ice filled the space. Xiao looked down, as if trying to find the right words. "When I'm with you, I feel something, something different. I don't feel like this with anybody else."
He glanced up at you, his golden eyes revealing a vulnerability you had never seen before. "When you're near, I feel calmer, like I can finally breathe. It's strange... I thought I'd lost those feelings 500 years ago when you disappeared, but the moment you returned, they came flooding back—like a wave crashing into my heart."
You watched him quietly, not saying a word as he continued. "And when you're not around, I keep thinking about you. About your presence, your voice, your warmth. It feels like I'm... drawn to you and I want to be near you."
He swallowed, his gaze never leaving yours. "It might not be the same as what Humans feel but I can assure you that these feelings are genuine."
You bit your lip, struggling with your own confusion.
I don't know what to feel. This tingle in my heart, what am I feeling?
He takes your hand in his, holding it firmly. "It's okay if you don't understand it. I don't understand it either. But, I just want you to know. You are important to me, y/n. More than anyone else."
You blinked, feeling a warmth rising up to your chest despite your uncertainty.
Is she blushing?
The sun began to break through the dark clouds, its rays filtering through the semi-translucent ice that surrounded the two of you. A soft iridescent glow bathed the space, casting hues of light blue and pale pink onto the ice walls, creating a serene and almost magical atmosphere within the sphere.
You found yourself momentarily distracted by the beauty of the light dancing around you, the softness of the glow making everything feel strangely peaceful despite the storm that had passed.
Like the storm, your misunderstanding had been cleared. "Beautiful." Xiao muttered. You nodded in agreement, unaware that Xiao wasn't talking about the light. His golden eyes were fixed on you.
You took a moment to admire the peaceful glow that surrounded you both.
Perhaps love could be learnt.

"Two Adepti found floating in a giant ice ball at Ritou harbor." A playful, melodic voice echoed through the air. The woman speaking exuded an air of elegance, yet there was a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"How did they end up here? Now that's a story worth reading." Her fox-like ears twitched ever so slightly, hinting at her true nature.
She sat gracefully on a low, lacquered table, legs folded beneath her in a poised, yet relaxed manner. With long, pink hair flowing gracefully down her back and an aura of otherworldly beauty, she seemed entirely at ease.
