I was hunched over my laptop, completely absorbed in my upcoming assignment for law school. The complexities of the case I was analyzing seemed to deepen with every passing moment, pulling me further into the legal labyrinth. I was just about to type out another thought when my phone buzzed beside me.

It was a text from Vansh.

My heart skipped a beat. Vansh Agarwal, the man who could probably strike fear into the heart of anyone with just one glance, had texted me. My fingers hovered over the keyboard, uncertain. We’d had our interactions, sure, but this was… unexpected.

Hey, Miss Lawyer. Busy?

I stared at the message for longer than I should have, my mind racing. What was he up to? Before I could even think of a clever response, my phone buzzed again. This time, it was his name flashing across the screen. He was calling.

Oh, God.

I hesitated for a second before answering, trying to keep my voice steady. “Hello?”

“Hello, Miss Lawyer,” his deep voice drawled on the other end, sending an involuntary shiver down my spine. “What are you doing?”

“Working on my assignment,” I managed to reply, hoping my voice sounded more confident than I felt. “Why?”

“Just checking,” he said, his tone smooth, almost teasing. “I didn’t mean to interrupt your very important work.”

“Right,” I said, rolling my eyes even though he couldn’t see me. “You totally sound sorry.”

He chuckled, a low sound that sent my pulse racing. “Caught me. I’m not.”

I couldn’t help but smile. Vansh had this way of making me feel like I was the only person in the world he was interested in talking to. But there was always that edge to him, that sense that he was holding something back. And now, here he was, calling me out of the blue.

“So, what’s up?” I asked, trying to sound casual.

There was a brief pause on the other end, just long enough for me to start wondering what was going through his mind. Then, with that same infuriatingly smooth tone, he said, “I was thinking… how about we go out tomorrow?”

The words hung in the air between us, and for a moment, I was sure I’d misheard him. Go out? As in, on a date? My mind scrambled to process the sudden shift in our conversation. This wasn’t exactly how I’d pictured my night going.
