I couldn't believe it

I couldn't believe it. Of all the places, I never expected to find myself in my boss's house. The moment I stepped into the mansion and saw the familiar décor, I felt my stomach twist into knots. Dr. Daksh Agarwal, the man who annoyed me to no end at the hospital, was actually Vansh's brother? My friend Sanvi's soon-to-be in-laws were also connected to *him*? I needed a moment to process this, or I was going to lose it in front of everyone.

Excusing myself with a hurried smile, I made my way out to the garden, desperately needing some air to clear my head. The cool breeze brushed against my skin, but it did little to soothe the storm brewing inside me. How could I have been so oblivious? I'd known Sanvi's fiancé came from a well-known family, but it never crossed my mind that Daksh might be related. Now, here I was, caught in the middle of a family event, and I felt like I was suffocating under the weight of it all.

I found a quiet spot among the flowers and closed my eyes, trying to breathe through the rising panic. But of course, the universe wasn't going to let me have even a minute of peace. "Are you avoiding me, Dr. Khanna?" That voice-I didn't have to open my eyes to know who it was.

I turned slowly, and there he was, leaning casually against a tree, his signature smirk firmly in place. "What are you doing here?" I demanded, my heart still racing from the shock of realizing where I was.

Daksh shrugged, completely unfazed. "I could ask you the same thing. But judging by the way you fled the room, I'd say you were trying to escape me. Should I be offended?"

His teasing tone only irritated me further, and I shot back, "Don't flatter yourself, Dr. Agarwal. I just needed some air. This place is... overwhelming."

"Overwhelming?" he echoed, taking a step closer. "Or are you just overwhelmed by the idea of spending time with me outside of the hospital? Maybe you're worried I might be even more irresistible in a social setting?"

I rolled my eyes, refusing to let him get under my skin. "Trust me, the last thing I'm worried about is finding you irresistible."

His laughter was soft, almost playful, and it sent an unexpected shiver down my spine. "You know, if you keep denying it so fiercely, people might start to think the opposite."

I was done with this conversation. The last thing I needed was for anyone to see us out here and get the wrong idea. "I don't have time for this," I muttered, brushing past him as I headed back to the main hall. "Enjoy your time in the garden, Dr. Agarwal."

As I rejoined the gathering, I tried to shake off the encounter, but it wasn't easy. There was something about the way Daksh looked at me that made me feel... off-balance, like I couldn't quite trust my own emotions around him.

Before I could dwell on it too much, I noticed Vansh's parents standing together, speaking to the room. The conversation around me quieted as everyone turned to listen. "We wanted to take a moment to share some exciting news," Mr. Agarwal began, his voice warm and inviting. "After discussing with Sanvi's parents, we've decided on a date for the engagement ceremony."
