"You're full of surprises", I said shaking my head as I settled in beside Abhimanyu on the grass.
"Why is that?" he asked, looking at me intently.
"First, you scared me at the library," I began. He opened his mouth to respond, but I cut him off. "Also, you didn't tell me you were the team captain." I huffed, my annoyance evident.
He continued to gaze at me, his expression unwavering. "And also, here, right now..." I paused, my voice dripping with suspicion. "Are you stalking me?"
My eyes narrowed, scrutinizing him. His eyes widened in surprise before he burst out laughing."First of all-" he began, but I interrupted him."Are you trying to get revenge on me because of my dada?"
He laughed again. "You can think so much in that little head of yours," he said, his voice filled with amusement.
I frowned, feeling uneasy. "Are you insulting me?"
He shook his head. "No, it's just... fascinating." I opened my mouth to speak but stopped."So, you play here every night?" I asked, looking around the ground. He nodded. "And you knew this was my house?" I continued, turning to face him. He nodded again.
"Can't you speak?" I said, irritated by his constant nodding.
"If you let me-"
"Achha, ato raate thanda lage na?" I asked, rubbing my hands together.
He chuckled, shaking his head, and then said, "Naa.""Go home, it's getting chilly," he said, glancing at my hands. "It's-"
"Go home and sleep, or else you'll have to run after the bus in the morning," he continued, his words trailing off.
Hearing him, I made a face. "How do you know?" I asked.
He just shrugged, standing up from the grass. He offered his hand to help me up, and I took it. His hand was long and slender, yet tough and rough. As he pulled me up, his warm hand wrapped reassuringly around mine.
I call out, ''You're really a stalker!'' as I pull my hand back from his grasp.
Abhimanyu's deep, soft warm voice wraps around me, ''Good night, Aadriti.''
I smile, feeling a flutter ''Good night, Abhimanyu dada.'' And he chuckles.***
"You got to be kidding, he's your neighbor too?'' Anu's voice rose in surprise
I nodded, and she began counting on her fingers. ''He's tutoring you, you're working on a project for his team, your brother has issues with him, and now he's your neighbor?'' Her eyes narrowed. ''Don't you think Abhimanyu is getting too involved in your life?''
''Durr ki bolchis!'' I frowned, dismissing her concern. It was true that I was getting involved with him more day by day, but that didn't necessarily indicate anything... or so I told myself..
I saw mischief sparkling in Anu's eyes. 'Ahh, here we go again with her bullshit,' I thought, shaking my head as she began speaking.
