The wedding date is getting closer, just two months away, and the excitement in the air is almost electric. We've sent out invitations to our dear friends and family, and I can hardly wait to see their smiles on our special day. The catering is all arranged, promising a tasty spread that will delight everyone's taste buds. To make it even more memorable, Alyssa has kindly agreed to perform at our wedding, adding a personal touch that will make the day even more special.
As I enjoy these preparations, my thoughts turn to my wedding dress and the outfits for my bridal party, working closely with Aliyah. I dream of a beautiful gown that reflects who I am and the love we share, while ensuring my bridal party looks lovely and coordinated.
However, before I dive into all the wedding details, I need to finish a campaign shoot with my father for Carter & Co.'s new collection. The contract initially felt overwhelming, filled with strict rules that weighed heavily on me. Thankfully, Taylor made some helpful changes, turning it into something much easier to handle.
When I walk into the building, I spot Ivy Cooper, the creative director of the shoot. She's dressed in a navy blue pinstripe pantsuit, her white stiletto heels clicking on the floor, and a cup of coffee in hand.
"Lex!" she smiles when she sees me. "How are you today?"
"It's been great," I reply, returning her smile.
"By the way, your co-star has arrived; he's getting ready," Ivy whispers, her excitement palpable.
The guy couldn't make it yesterday due to his schedule, but he was informed about everything via email-still, I feel a knot in my stomach.
"Thank you," I say, trying to keep my smile in place, though my mind races with what's to come.
The campaign is inspired by the iconic film Breakfast at Tiffany's, and when I read the script they handed me, I fell in love with it right away. I even made Christian watch the movie with me, captivated by the beautiful set design and timeless charm.
As I step into my dressing room, I'm greeted by an array of stunning costumes and jewelry that sparkle like dreams waiting to be realized. I sink into my chair, ready to be transformed as the hair and makeup artists work their magic. While I wait in my robe, I send Christian a photo, my heart fluttering at the thought of him joining me soon.
Suddenly, I feel a gentle kiss on my neck. "You look gorgeous!"
"Hey, I just texted you," I say, turning to find him there, a calming presence amidst the chaos. "I thought you wouldn't make it."
"I wouldn't miss you as Audrey Hepburn for the world, princess," he replies, leaning casually against the vanity, his smile warming my heart.
"You're so sweet," I respond, feeling grateful for his support.
Christian has recently started a new project-a fancy apartment building that looks absolutely stunning. He showed me a 3D model, and it looks nothing short of amazing, reflecting his creativity and hard work.
"How's work?" I ask, genuinely curious.
"We're just clearing up the site," he replies, his excitement contagious.
Our moment is interrupted by a knock on the door, signaling it's time for me to step onto the set. As I turn to greet my co-star, a wave of mixed emotions washes over me. Damian stands there, a smile on his face, and I fight the urge to scream or lash out in anger.
"Alexandria?" he asks, his voice dripping with familiarity.
"Damian," I reply, trying to keep my cool, though my heart races with frustration.
"Who would've thought your dad would hire us for the same campaign?" he laughs, a sound that irritates me.
"Who's this?" Christian asks, his hand protectively resting on my back.
"Oh, this is Damian. Damian, this is my fiancé, Christian Calloway!" I emphasize "fiancé," hoping to shield myself from the past.
"Hi," Damian greets, raising a hand, but Christian's glare speaks volumes.
As we begin the shoot, Ivy's voice directs us, but I struggle to concentrate. Memories-painful and raw-flood my mind, resurfacing old wounds. It's been years since I last saw Damian, and now, here he is, playing my love interest. The sight of him ignites a fierce anger within me, tangled with the demands of professionalism, creating an atmosphere thick with unresolved feelings.
He was my first boyfriend, the one who chose my father's connections over our love. We dated for three years, only for him to leave me for an opportunity that shattered my heart, leaving me questioning my worth. No one seems to realize how their actions affect others.
"Can we do that over?" Ivy interrupts, halting the shoot.
"Sorry, I need a break," I say softly as I walk off the set, desperate to escape the heavy emotions.
I lock myself in the my dressing room, taking deep breaths to regain my composure. Christian follows me, concern etched on his face.
"Princess?" he asks, his voice filled with worry. "Are you okay?"
"No," I admit, tears threatening to spill as I meet his gaze. "I can't do this, not with him."
