Unknown's POV
Where was that idiot? How could he just disappear like that? I raced against time, rushing for the dock. As I hastily showed the employee my fake identification I inputted into the company's server, I realized upon seeing the perplexed look on her face that they must have familiarized themselves with the people who would be coming aboard in order to be able to provide personalized service.
I cursed under my breath and looked at her. I scanned her, looking for any distinguished features. She was definitely attractive, with glossy brown hair and clear skin. But, when I looked at her, the trait that stood out to me most was definitely her eyes. They were smoky and soft, cypress green speckled with gold flecks. She wouldn't meet my gaze, seemingly shy. Good, she was humble, now my job was even easier.
I looked straight into her eyes and said, cringing internally, but without skipping a beat, "They say not to stare at the sun, but nobody warned me about your eyes." She immediately turned red, looking away. "U-Uh you can go sir." I tried not to look too relieved so as to not seem suspicious. I quickly climbed down the hatch. Now where was Jungwon?
I prowled the hallways, looking for his room number I had discovered while I was sifting through the company's data. I saw his room and stopped. He was going out with his sister? As he left, he forgot to lock the door. I crept up toward his door when it suddenly moved. I ducked back behind the corner I had just turned. Another person came out. Thank god I hadn't come closer, as if I had, I would've been spotted.
I slipped in as he walked out of view, shutting the door behind me. I decided I would surprise Jungwon when he decided to return to his room. That little shit. He really left me behind to fend for myself. I hadn't believed his crap about going to "a local beach," and good on me for being perceptive. It was what saved my skin when they came. He should've known as soon as he went into hiding that those around him would be affected.
I cracked the passcode on his laptop easily, and as it powered on, thousands of notifications popped up, for a variety of reasons, but most of them asking where he had gone. You could see hundreds of fake long lost relatives asking to his whereabouts. As of now, searches were likely being conducted globally in search of him. I opened one email, his username and password filling in automatically. At first glance, I assumed from the adoring tone that the email I opened was from an admirer stalking him upon seeing his socials. It wasn't too uncommon. It read,
wonnie,
I hope you're doing well! I saw that you weren't as online lately. since you don't seem to be using your email much, we should exchange phone numbers! our convos have been pretty one-sided, so we can get to know each other better, especially considering that we'll be married soon!
love you always,
heiran
I couldn't believe my eyes. How delusional was this girl? Still, an uneasy feeling settled in the pit of my stomach. My gut told me there was some kernel of truth to this. But, I had assumed the unknown man exiting the room and Jungwon were involved. The longing with which he had looked in the direction Jungwon had gone after his departure spoke volumes as to his feelings on the matter. I felt assured of at least Jungwon's wanting to date this man because he had let him into his personal space. Few had gotten as far.
I filtered for her email in his inbox to find all the emails she had sent. To sift through every one of them would take me an eternity. I clicked on them, one by one, trying to find the root of this, but the oldest emails had been deleted, probably to clear up storage. The messages I did read were of the same sickly sweet tone, repeatedly referring to their incoming "marriage."
Jungwon's responses, however, were few and far. The replies he did send seemed stiff and uncomfortable. Whatever this girl was talking about, he clearly did not have any feelings whatsoever for her. Suddenly, another notification popped up. "ACTIVITY DETECTED," it read. I clicked on it. Maybe I'd get some answers after all.
As I entered the application the notification had come from, the screen itself suddenly became an eerie green. A login popped up, prompting me for a pin. No matter how I tried, I couldn't guess it. I tried his birthday, dates that were special to him, etc. Nothing worked. Suddenly, the login disappeared, leaving me with a screen that said "Try again in an hour."
I screamed in frustration, slamming the laptop shut. The answers had been so close yet so far. I consoled myself with the thought that Jungwon would have to come back to his room sooner or later. And when he did, I would be waiting.
note:
so sorry for the long wait, I know it's a short chapter. hopefully next week I can double update because I have a holiday. I'll try to hold myself to deadlines. so, did we like it?
